Project Assistant for its “SDG WASH-COVID-19 Response

Amref Health Africa is an African-led international health development organization headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. Founded in 1957 as the Flying Doctors of East Africa to bring critical health services to remote communities, Amref Health Africa envision to bringing lasting health change for Africain more than 30 countries across the continent. With a focus on women and children, the organization strives to overcome the most critical health challenges facing the continent: maternal and child health, HIV & TB, malaria, water and sanitation and health systems strengthening. Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia has been working in Ethiopia since 2002 in close collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health implementing a range of projects in maternal, neonatal and child health, reproductive health, health systems strengthening, health workforce development, water and sanitation, HIV/AIDS and non-communicable diseases across the country, supported by a wide range of multilateral and bilateral donors, corporates and foundations. 

Amref Health Africa would like to recruit Project Assisatant based in West Arsi Zone, (one for Negele Arsi and One for Shashemene) and will report to Project Officer.

Purpose of the Job: 

The main purpose of the job is to implement Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia’s WASH-COVID-19 Response project which mainly focuses on improving COVID-19 prevention through community mobilization, awareness raising campaigns, capacity building, improving WASH facilities and other preventive measures in targeted Woredas and kebeles. She/he will report to the Project officer and works closely with the project team and other stakeholders to implement the project in the targeted woredas. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing weekly, monthly and quarterly detail implementation work plan
  • Implementing project activities together with district health office, health extension workers, schools representatives and other relevant project partners.
  • Participating in site selection for construction of hand washing and other WASH facilities.
  • Follow up the construction of WASH facilities
  • Conduct regular supervision of WASH construction facilities together with relevant government stakeholders
  • Prepare and submit weekly construction progress updates
  • Facilitate community mobilization activities on COVID-19 prevention and control.
  • Assess and collect the necessary information related to WASH-COVID-19 from health facilities, schools, community etc. and share to his supervisor.
  • Conduct training for health workers, health extension workers, WASHCOs, community leaders and other stakeholders.
  •  Conduct regular meeting with woreda task forces/RRT, hygiene promoters, school teachers and WASH clubs etc.
  • Effect payment according to Amref health Africa’s financial policy and procedure for project activities.
  • Identify project beneficiaries and keep the necessary documentation, check list and registration
  • Organize and facilitate community trainings and mass awareness raising campaigns.
  • Participate on project implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the activities
  •  Assist the project in any emerging issue as requested by the supervisor

Terms of employment: 1 year, possibility of extension based on availability of fund and performance

Duty Station: 1 post at Negele Arsi and 1 post at Shashemene

Job Requirements

  • BSC in environmental health, Public Health, or other WASH related fields.
  •  Additional training in WASH/SBCC is advantageous. 
  • Practical experience in emergency response.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in WASH project implementation of which at leaset one year is emergency response.
  •  NGO and experience of working rural communities is an advantage
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
  • Knowledge of the local language & English.
  • Excellent computer skills: MS applications- MS-PPT, MS-Word and Excel,
  • The ideal candidate must have competencies of accepting instruction, solve problems, have good interpersonal skills
