Job Description

Internal/External Vacancy Announcement

The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training.

AHRI would like to hire qualified candidate in the position of Associate Researcher I.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the establishment of a molecular laboratory and upgrading of existing ones
  • Plan, coordinate and timely report on activities of the field site
  • Liaise between the main laboratory and the field laboratory
  • Work closely with colleagues to identify opportunities for improvement 
  • Insure the documentation of experimental work; enforce strict maintenance of laboratory logbooks
  • Insure completeness and capture of data timely, summarize and present results in team/lab meetings
  • Write protocols, reports and SOPs when needed
  • Order/maintain instruments and reagents for Adama lab Requirements
  • Grant writing 

Job Requirements

Education, Experience & Publication Point:

  • MSc Degree in Biotechnology or similar field AND three (3) years work experience AND three pint five (3.5) publication points; and a background in Biological/Biomedical Science is an added advantage
  •  Experience in research demonstrated by high impact publications is mandatory
  • Willing to travel and assume additional responsibilities as might be necessary
