Background:

John Snow, Inc. (JSI) is a public health management firm, headquartered in the United States, dedicated to improving the health of individuals and communities throughout the world. JSI has been implementing public health work in Ethiopia for over 25 years.

JSI is implementing the five-year Digital Health Activity in Ethiopia, which is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The purpose of this Activity is to support the Government of Ethiopia (GOE) to improve the quality of health services and create a sustainable health care system through the use of data for decision making, as well as to provide similar services to other countries in Africa or to respond to a crisis in Ethiopia (as needed). The primary objectives of the Activity are to 1) support information technology systems and data repository at all levels; 2) build a culture of data use; and 3) improve capacity and governance of MOH health information systems management.

We are looking for a Graphic Designer who will be responsible for different graphic design activities with different fonts, photographs, layouts and other design elements to fulfil JSI/Digital Health Activity project needs.

Duties and responsibilities

• Translating client needs and branding strategies into design strategies.
• Study design briefs and determine requirements.
• Selecting colors, fonts, photographs, layouts and other design elements to communicate creative concepts.
• Use digital illustration, photo editing software, and layout software to create designs.
• Create visual elements such as original images, and illustrations to help deliver a message.
• Design layouts, including selection of colors, images, and typefaces.
• Present design concepts to client within the agreed timeline.
• Incorporate changes recommended by clients or art directors into final designs.
• Brief and advise client regarding design style, format, print production and timescales.
• Responsible for implementing JSI's Accountability Framework and Code of Conduct, and adhering to JSI's polices on fraud management.

Job Requirements

Qualification and skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Architecture, IT or other related fields.
• At least four years of experience in graphic design activities.
• Knowledge of composition, Photography, 2D graphic, motion graphic and computer-generated design. 
• Proficient in CGI software (Adobe Creative suite, 3ds Max etc.).
• A creative storyteller with presentation abilities.
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
• Experience working in public health, NGOs and/or the social sector.
• Ability to begin work immediately.
• Comfortable working with tight deadlines and budget restrictions.
• Flexibility is highly desired.
