The gender expert will closely work with the rest of LWF Ethiopia team in the Gender Responsive Project to IDPs, local communities, CBOs, and local government, and other relevant stakeholders towards increasing women’s roles in leadership in their communities; enhance women’s collective and individual participation in the decisions that affect their lives; and enhancing women’s access to and control over productive resources; facilitate women into self-help groups; and providing women the opportunity to penetrate into non-traditionally-female domains of activity – such as participation in public discourse, financial management, and decision-making of production activities.

The post holder will ensure equal participation and benefit of women and men IDPs and host community during the implementation of project activities. Quickly analyze the existing gender differences so that the services are delivered to meet the particular needs of men and women and with particular focus on the needs of women in WASH, NFI and early recovery livelihood focused interventions. Participate actively in the baseline survey and data collection process to determine effectively the targeting broken down by gender and age. Monitor both the intended and unintended effects of the response on women and men, and take timely actions to address existing and emerging issues and concerns. The gender expert will organize community awareness-raising activities on SRHR and GBV issues and services.

Employment Term: One year with possibility of extension

Job Requirements

BA or MA degree in Social Sciences especially gender studies, or relevant disciplines from recognized University/College.

Required Experience:

Minimum of 3 years relevant experience for Bachelor and 1 year for Masters degree preferably in gender issues.

Key competencies:

  • Knowledge of Oromia Language is mandatory.
  • Excellent written and oral English Language skills,
  • Strong knowledge and experience working with gender issues, women self-help groups; IGA, and value chain development.
  • Deep knowledge in rural communities; particularly with rural women
  • Good skills in reporting and monitoring,
  • Computer literate,
