Job Description

Background

Human rights CSOs have been suffering as direct targets of the much domineering legislative, institutional and political measures taken by the government for the past many years in Ethiopia. One of the main challenges in terms of setting up a formal and organized network of Human Rights CSOs in the past was the numbers of Ethiopian CSOs working on human rights were too few. These CSOs were also not well organized to ensure the existence of an enabling environment for human rights and democratic governance through CSOs-led evidence-based advocacy, constructive dialogue, and partnerships for actions. To tackle these problems and with the vision of creating a platform for strong and vibrant human rights CSOs for the realization of human rights and democratic values in Ethiopia, an engagement with Human Rights CSOs started in 2015 and the Consortium of Ethiopian Human Rights Organizations (CEHRO) was registered on the 16th of March 2018 (re-registered as per 1113/2019 with registration number 3932). Currently CEHRO has 12 active member CSOs from different regions of the country including 5 founding members. Since its establishment in 2018, CEHRO has conducted several strategic activities which benefited its member organizations that can contribute toward realization of the collective CEHRO’s vision. 

Currently, CEHRO is looking for Driver and Messanger as per the detail belowPost holder’s objective and Responsibilities

Objective:

CEHRO’s Driver and Messenger is responsible for providing safe, efficient and effective services to CEHRO staff and official visitors when required. This includes professional and safe driver services, and efficient messenger and administrative support. The Driver and Messenger is discreet, courteous, has strong customer skills and ensures the vehicle is always clean, in good running condition and regular maintenance schedules are followed.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Transport of staffs, goods and/or documents:

  • Provide safe and punctual driving services to the Executive Director for his home trips on Mondays to Saturday, and Sunday as the case may be,
  • Regular checking and follow up of the driver planning using the transport board or as instructed by the Administration & Finance Manager.
  • Distribute or collect the mail from post office as instructed on the transport schedule and delivering mail and invitations.
  • Deliver correspondence to government authorities/other organizations and assist in processing various flights.
  • Deliver payment documents to the bank, and collect documents from bank, the revenue’s authority or other relevant organization as the case may be,
  • Ensure the safety of passengers and vehicles at all times when on duty.

Vehicle maintenance:

  • Daily check of oil, water, brake fluid, battery and tire properly and keep the official vehicles in clean condition, both inside and outside.
  • Ensure the vehicle has adequate petrol level at all time and that it is filled up with petrol every Monday or Friday.
  • Ensure vehicles are serviced on time and schedule vehicle servicing time with the Finance and Administration Manger,
  • Ensure sound running of the vehicles assigned report and arrange minor repairs where necessary.

 Administration:

  • Keep track of timely car insurance renewals.
  • Submit daily/weekly maintenance vehicle checks to administration.
  • Complete daily vehicle record sheets for each vehicle used accurately - including petrol and oil purchases.
  • Participate in crisis exercises and assist as required in responding to any crisis.
  • Conduct purchases for office expenditure using cash or GPC (officially provided card), obtain receipts and account for all expenditure.
  • Obtain receipts for all delivered documents.
  • Develop useful contacts.
  • General support as instructed by Administration project accountant or the Executive Director.

Employment Type: One year contract period with possibility of extension

Number of employee: One 

Job Requirements

  • Completion of secondary school is required
  • A valid driving license category B with a minimum of 3 years driving experience.
  • Excellent driving skills.
  • Displays personal integrity, honesty, and discretion
  • Good knowledge of basic car maintenance.
  • Very good knowledge of Rabat and region.
  • Computer literate.
  • Good Spoken and written Amharic, and English languages skills. Additional local language is an advantage. 

Skills and Experience

  • Must have adequate theoretical and practical knowledge of driving,
  • Minimum of three years relevant work experience
  • Flexible, mature, responsible
  • Ability to work independently
