Position title:        INTERPRETER (local Position)

No. of positions:

Place of work: : Abdurafi (Amhara Region), with possibility to be assigned to emergency response in the surrounding area

Terms of employment:  Temporary/ daily work ( For emergency response) pool 

  • Remuneration and Benefits:
  • Starting gross salary 7,256 .00 ETB
  • Medical cover: as per the organization policy
  • hardship allowance 25% of salary with maximum amount of Birr 5,000

Médecins Sans Frontières (also known as Doctors without Borders or MSF) is a private, non-profit, international humanitarian medical organization that intervenes in emergencies and crisis situations to relieve human suffering resulting from unmet medical needs. MSF observes strict neutrality with respect to politics and provides its assistance without discriminating on the basis of race, religion, ideology, or political affiliation. MSF’s members are required to respect humanitarian principles and principles of medical ethics at all times.

MSF-Holland in Ethiopia currently operates in four projects (North Gonder, Abdurafi project, in Somali region- Wardher project, in Gambella region; Kule and Terkidi project with diversified workforce..

Main Purpose/Job Summary :- Perform oral and written translation, from the mission language to local language(s) or vice versa, in order to ensure simultaneous, accurate, friendly, respectful, objective and fluent communication between MSF staff and local population

Accountabilities:

  • Translate documents from / to mission language into a local one upon request.
  • Translate discussions / meetings as requested
  • Always keep respect towards patients, collaborators, authorities, military factions and MSF staff participating in discussions.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all translation is maintained as directed by the Mission/Project coordination team.
  • Ensure neutrality and accuracy when translating.
  • Declare any “conflict of interest” when asked to translate (e.g. personal involvement) which would necessitate using other staff members for translation.
  • Inform international staff about local customs, tradition, etc., that will help understand better the context and better communicate..
