The Job

Splash’s behavior change strategy is designed to achieve and sustain clean hands, clean water and clean toilets for kids through combining hardware that is beautiful and durable with comprehensive behavioral interventions inspired by human centered design and behavioral science.

The Behavior Change Manager will lead the design of our curriculum targeted towards school focal teachers and students. This person will also have heavy involvement in the design of curriculum and/or training materials for all stakeholders (ex. janitors, maintenance staff, parents). S/he will be responsible for contributing to Splash global program standards and championing the global behavior change strategy. S/he will be the lead trainer during any large education event (for example, this includes the training of teachers, training gov’t staff, and refresher trainings), as well as be responsible for training the Splash Project Team and ensuring quality implementation of all site-level training sessions. In addition, s/he will share lessons learned with other technical experts and global team members.

This position will work under the supervision of the Behaviour Change Senior Manager of Addis and receive technical guidance from the Global Senior Manager of Behaviour Change in Seattle, WA USA.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Work with Splash Addis and global behavior change leadership to design and test new initiatives, as well as create appropriate changes or additions to the existing Splash curriculum
  • Document program design, standards, and curriculum for internal and external use
  • Leverage behavior change methodology and conduct formative research to design programs for improved hygiene behaviors of children, engagement of teachers and site staff
  • Work with the program leaders and host regular trainings for the entire Project Team as new programs are developed and new staff are hired
  • Be the lead training for large training events and occasionally join the Project Coordinators and Project Officers during site visits to oversee and provide feedback on facilitation skills and quality program implementation
  • Contribute for yearly review and evaluation of our program using MLE data and existing contextual challenges to assess gaps and necessary changes or improvements
  • Work with the entire Addis-based Behavior Change team to build a comprehensive behavior change program together
  • Stay up to date on relevant best practices to ensure the program is based on sound field-evidence
  • Contribute to Developing and managing the Behavior Change annual workplan and associated budget, implementation and reporting
  • Contribute to formal grant reporting and documentation
  • Participate in regular virtual meetings with Splash’s global Behavior Change department to share best practices, challenges, and develop new programmatic initiatives
  • Take other related responsibilities which contribute for the success of the organization, as per the assignment of program lead.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in relevant field (eg. Public Health, Social Work, Behavioral Economics, Education, Community Development, Social Phycology).
  • At least 5 years of working experience and demonstrated knowledge on current trends related to behavior change. A targeted emphasis on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene is preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively facilitate trainings and build the facilitation capacity of others
  • Confident in designing, researching and expanding behavior change programs
  • Experience in Human Centered Design and Behavior Centered Design is preferable
  • Experience in design software such as graphics, InDesign, publisher, photoshop is preferable
  • Fluent in Amharic and English
