SUMMARY STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
With the direct supervision of the Camp Manager and technical oversight of the Child and Youth Protection and Development (CYPD) Senior Manager in Jijiga and the rest of CPYD technical team in Addis Ababa, the Education Program Officer is responsible for the program design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and reporting of Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) program activities in Sheder refugee Camp.
Responsibilities:
- Plans realistic budget based on the need on the ground.
- Ensures the quality day to day implementation of the ECCD program.
- Keeps the record of number of children who are attending in the ECCD program.
- Works very closely with Refugee Central Committee and PTA to ensure that children are attending the ECCD program.
- Helps ECCD facilitators to plan lessons, and stick to the plan and effectively use pre-school healing classroom curriculum
- Conducts pre-service, in-service and summer teachers trainings based on teachers training needs;
- Ensure that the teaching and learning process is as per IRC standard procedures, policies and strategic plan;
- Works on the improvement of teaching aid materials for math, literacy, art and exploration centers and provide the required pedagogical supports to ECCD facilitators;
- Supports and facilitate the enrolment of marginalized and disadvantaged children and ensure the rate of dropouts are reduced;
- Creates innovative and child and learner centered environment where children and are motivated to participate in the learning and teaching process;
- Supports relevant staff in gathering reliable data on children’s attendance, dropout, and both gross and net enrollment rate of school age children to make sure that an updated data is recoded, documented and reported and appropriate actions are taken on time.
- Execute other duties as assigned by his/her immediate supervisor;
- Develops activity and spending plan when new grants are released and effectively uses the plans
- Ensure effective budget management based on existing tools (PR tracking and BvA) to avoid under or over spending.
- Communicates on regular basis both the field office and/or Addis team on progresses and any challenges
- Represents the IRC in regular refugee education coordination meetings
- Coaches/mentors ECCD facilitators and other staff in his/her supervision
Job Requirements
Applies an intermediate level of knowledge of procedures and systems to perform the requirements of the job; skills and knowledge typically acquired through a combination of job related training, some on-the-job experience and formal education.
- 2 years of relevant experience with the first degree or diploma with 5 years of experience
- 1 years of relevant experience plus post graduate degree.
- NGO experience is a plus.
Skills required
- Basic supervisory/managerial skills.
- Technical and report writing skills
- Computer literate.
