Job Description
HELVETAS Swiss Interco operation Ethiopia is a registered charity operating in the working areas of Rural Infrastructure, Natural Resources Management, Support to Civil Society Organizations and Local Government, Skill Development and Education, and Emergency Responses. HELVETAS Ethiopia is presently looking for motivated and competent professionals for the following 2 positions for a project entitled “First Mile Project” in Amhara National Regional State.
The First Mile Project (FMP) aims towards poverty reduction, through woreda development plans and strengthened community ownership of rural infrastructure (trails and bridges), improving access to social and basic services as well as economic resources and opportunities of the rural settlements in Amhara. FMP focuses at the following changes in four key components namely Community management and ownership of improved RTI, strengthened systems and capacity for trail bridge construction, tested approaches to trail network improvements and management, and Sector policy on RTI and a First Mile approach with the regional government. The project includes the construction of a further 30 suspension brides as well as piloting foot trail networks in five trail bridge sites with regional government sharing investment costs of each bridge. It will also strongly focus on support to create COM and ensure post-construction sustainability using a data-driven and evidence-based approach to rural infrastructure improvement and have this included in the government transport policy and strategies.

Major Duties and responsibilities:
The Partnership and Capacity Development Officer for FMP Project will bring in thematic competence in social and institutional capacity development skills to ensure that all deliverables pertaining to the building of Capacity and partnerships development with government actors, the private sector and civil society organizationsand and creating community ownership and management of road infratsruvtures component are accomplished on time and in line with the approved work program. The SDO development specially works on facilitating and technical support to build capacity of rural communities and local authorities for joint decision-making on rural transport infrastructure development agenda, implementation of community priorities and creating community ownership and management of infrastructures for the successful implementation of the FMP Project and for the achievement of the project’s goal, objectives, outcomes and outputs, thereby adhering to the principles, working approaches, and strategies of HELVETAS and the FMP project. The Project Officer works with project partners, stakeholders and beneficiaries, who are critical for the success of the project. S/he reports to the Project Manager (PM) of FMP Project.
