Project summary

Micronutrient deficiency is a public health concern in Ethiopia. There is a need to better understand micronutrient deficiency risks at various scales and durations, to support evidence gathering for programmatic interventions to improve nutrition. Funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Center for Food Science and Nutrition of Addis Ababa University, in collaboration with partners in the UK and US, is working on a project that aims to co-design and co-develop an open access, user friendly, and web based tool to estimate magnitude of micronutrient deficiency in the country. The micronutrient action policy support (MAPS) project contributes to the goal of increasing equitable consumption of safe, affordable, nutritious diets year-round by forecasting how we can best act and plan now to address micronutrient deficiencies in current and dynamic future systems by blending data sets from nutrition, agriculture and health, allowing for interdisciplinary modeling, and delivering visualizations of micronutrient delivery scenarios in Ethiopia and other low and middle income country settings. The MAPS tool will increase usability of agriculture, nutrition and health data to inform policies and programs across multiple sectors around best ways to optimize resources to reduce micronutrient deficiency. Thus, the Center for Food Science and Nutrition under the MAPS project is seeking to hire a competent individual for the following position:

Job Description

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Regular communication with and progress reporting to the principal investigator, project leader and the team in general
  • Engage stakeholders in the design and development process of the MAPS tool by setting up series of meetings
  • Identify priority users and users’ requirements for the tool
  • Identification and source mapping of nutrition, agriculture and health data to be used for modeling and visualization
  • Module preparation and organization of training and meeting with users
  • Preparation and submission of protocol/s for ethical approval and agreement for use of secondary data

Job Requirement

  • Masters in Nutritional Sciences, public health, and related fields
  • At least four years of experiences in research related to micronutrient nutrition, data management, project design and implementation
  • Demonstrated experience working with multiple stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience in grant management skill of donor funded projects
  • Proven experience on report writing, expenditure tracking and overall grant management
  • Demonstrated experience in working in teams, as well as, working independently with minimum supervision.

Required skills & abilities:

  • Very good knowledge of nutrition, agriculture and health programs, policies and researches in Ethiopia
  • English writing and communication proficiency, and report writing.
  • Strong organization skills
  • Dynamic, flexible, proactive, coachable, disciplined and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Professionalism, accountability, problem solving, ability to give positive feedback to partner
  • Excellent data management and analysis skills
  • Other virtual skills for managing communications, and project monitoring

Reporting to: Primary investigator

Duty Station: Addis Ababa

Length of Contract: two years (with possibility of extension)

Gross Salary:   34,000 ETB per month
