KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
Strategic and Technical Assistance and Capacity Building
- Lead the implementation of gender related education activities of the project in collaboration with other stakeholders, including conducting gender assessments and organizing trainings;
- Build the capacities of government service providers and support them to coordinate referrals and reporting of SGBV and ensure proper follow up of documented incident;
- In conjunction with project team, undertake regular field trips to schools and reading camps to check field based gender mainstreaming activities; and advise on monitoring and reporting on emerging gender related issues;
- Provide technical guidance during implementation of projects using/developing as required gender appropriate and gender sensitive tools and ensuring equity in participation of Adolescent and Youth based on gender and other intersecting identities (e.g. disability; age; host/ IDP/ Returnee; etc.).
- Contribute to the gender sensitive monitoring of GAC education project and provide training to girls and school staff focusing on gender appropriate approaches and methodologies.
- Develop and/or adapt IEC packages on gender Equality/SGBV.
- Liaison with SC Ethiopia and Canada TAs for collaboration and support.
Representation and Advocacy
- Represent Save the Children at the monthly & quarterly gender based meetings and update on progress made, challenges and appropriate follow up plans to regional government sector offices.
- Plan and lead gender related community activities/campaigns like the international women’s day and 16 days of gender activism as a platform to lobby on gender sensitive practices and behavioural change.
Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, Learning
- Supporting project team in measuring achievement and progress towards project goals and results.
- Support the MEAL team in the development of gender responsive tools during assessments, Project evaluations and report, and in documenting and sharing best practices/lessons learned.
- Coordinate with MEAL colleagues to ensure complaints and feedback mechanism is gender sensitive in terms of access, and that a system is in place to review complaints for nuances related to gender sensitive programming.
SCOPE OF ROLE:
- Reports to: Project coordinator directly and Field Office Manager indirectly
- Dimensions: Save the Children works in Ethiopia, in development and emergency contexts across different regions.

Job Requirements
- Minimum of BED. or BA degree in an area of education, gender, social work and development studies or equivalent.
- Preferred working experience related to child protection and gender
- Good organizational, communication and writing skills.
- Demonstrate an open and inclusive attitude, commitment to the importance of protecting children and manage to work under pressure and appreciate challenges.
- Good teamwork skills.
- Respect of Save the Children rules, policies and code of conduct.
- Recommended a minimum of five years, among these three years NGO experience in an officer role in emergency and/ or development contexts, preferably with solid experience in more than one of the following priority sectors: Education, Gender, and emergencies
- Experience in case study and success story development
- Good experience conducting training programs, community mobilization and conversations
- Good team spirit, and working experience; Strong interpersonal skills & excellent team player.
- Knowledge of latest health related issues, including technical guidelines and standards in emergency health and WASH as well as COVID 19
- Experience in community mobilization, dialogue and/ or conversation
- Working experience with girls’ education challenge
- Willingness and ability to work in hardship environment.
- Cultural and gender sensitivity
- Fluency in written and spoken English and local language (Afaan Oromo is mandatory)
