Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities
 
The Youth Focal Point’s role is to ensure day-to-day coordination between UN agencies, funds and programmes on the ground in support of the implementation, monitoring of the UN Strategy on Youth, including mainstreaming Youth in United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) processes; acting as the liaison to the national Government with relation to the UN’s work on Youth; and acting as the liaison for national and local youth organizations and networks.

Within delegated authority, the Youth Focal Point will be responsible for the following duties:

Support to the RC/UNCT in the UN engagement with youth in Ethiopia:
  • Leads and contributes to the oversight of the implementation of the UN Youth Strategy on the ground and supports the alignment with national action plans, UNSDCF and other relevant frameworks.
Provide coordination support to the Youth Task Force activities, including the development of joint UN Work Plan on youth:
  • Convene and provide secretariat support to the UNSDCF thematic working group on youth;
  • Support the coordination of a coherent and integrated youth response by the UN family on the ground, facilitating joint situation analysis and problem analysis, fostering joined planning/programming and multi-disciplinary approaches towards collective outcomes.
Support to build and maintain strategic partnerships and facilitate knowledge building and sharing:
  • Provide coordination and information-sharing support for donors, line-ministries and other stakeholders, facilitating engagement with youth-serving and youth-led organizations and networks;
  • Developing joint resource mobilization efforts and collaborating on communication and public information campaigns;
  • Identifies strategic actors and builds partnership with them to promote youth issues;
  • Maintains relationships with youth-led and youth-focused organizations, including tracking and maintaining database;
  • Documents and promotes innovative approaches and success stories of young people to decision makers;
  • Develops web-stories and social media content on UN youth activities and youth issues;
  • Supports the establishment and maintenance of contacts in the international youth advocacy field and amongst UN institutions that lead to joint youth initiatives;
  • As appropriate, advise the UN Resident Coordinator on matters related to youth.

  • In-depth knowledge of development and youth issues in Ethiopia;

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Social Sciences, Public Administration, International Relations, or a related field. A Bachelor’s Degree with two additional years of experience may also be accepted.
Work Experience:
  • A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in in youth policy, youth empowerment, youth participation, monitoring and reporting, programme coordination, or similar fields. Experience in the usage of computers and office software package
Languages:
  • Fluency in English is required.
Assessment:
  • Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
