Job Title: Deputy CFO

Job Summary

An exciting opportunity to work with an international company that produces pioneering building materials. Join our client as their Deputy CFO to provide financial advice and support to the executive management team both in the HQ in Europe and Ethiopia to enable sound business decisions, and understanding of the cash flowing through and out of the Client’s business by ensuring financial practices are in line with international standards (IFRS) and all statutory legislation and regulations.  

Deputy CFO is accountable for the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of the company. Deputy CFO is responsible for the development of a financial strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results.  

Deputy CFO shall effectively manage the team and with an emphasis on empowerment, accountability, continuous improvement, productivity and goal attainment. Deputy CFO evaluates the performance of the team fairly & rationally and identify and develop potential successors. Deputy CFO establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with all partners that have that have direct or indirect financial stake. 

Deputy CFO reports directly to the General Manager and directly assists the D. General Manager on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to budget management, cost benefit analysis, forecasting needs and the securing of new funding. 

Description of Major Duties and Responsibilities: Primary 

Financial Strategy:  

  • Develops accounting, financial, and assets strategies by forecasting capital, facilities, and staff requirements; identifying monetary resources; developing action plans. 
  • Develops organization opportunities; projecting prospects; analyzing organization operations; identifying opportunities for improvement, cost reduction, and systems enhancement. 
  • Monitors financial performance by measuring and analyzing results; initiating corrective actions; minimizing the impact of variances. 
  • Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive management team

Financial Controls:  

  • Review and implement policy and accounting procedure manual of the company in Europe and Ethiopia.  
  • Develop and execute necessary process applications for adherence to financial policy and procedures.  
  • Develop and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets. 1.2.4 Ensures that all information required for the purpose of auditing is institutionalized.  
  • Administers budgets of and analyzes variances accordingly.  

Financial Management: 

  • Align financial activities within the company. 
  • Maintain an IFRS complain chart of account, general ledger, and financial records. 1.3.3 Introduce cost accumulation mechanisms according to IFRS.  
  • Produces IFRS compliant reports on the utilization fund to company 
  • Prepare operational and risk reports for management analysis. Description of Major Duties and Responsibilities: Secondary 
  • Fiscal reports: Undertake the management and coordination of all fiscal reports on monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis on a company wide basis plus on project or grant basis as well.  
  • Financial audits: Ensure adequate controls are installed with substantiating documentation for all transactions that must pass independent and governmental audits. 
  • Financial compliance: Work with the management to ensure cost analysis support, and compliance with all contractual and programmatic requirements. 2.4 Account management: Establish an efficient and workable system to ensure timely working capital management discipline in regards to receivables, payables, and arrears.  
  • Accounting team: Ascertains that the finance team is performing the day-to-day activities in an effective and planned manner. 
  • Accounting standards: Establish standard operating procedure (SOP’s) in terms of accounting, payments, asset, and procurement.  
  • Account Classification: Establish account treatment of tangible and intangible assets according to IFRS. 
  • Financial Insurance: Arranges adequate insurance coverage for cash and other properties against theft, fire, and follows- up issues of indemnity in case of accident. 

Job Requirements

Education, Competency, and Experience 

  • MBA/BA in Finance and IFRS certification is a must.  
  • Work Experience: 10 or 8 years of relevant experience with at least 3 years at leadership position.  
  • Experience in financial analytics and or corporate finance required 3.4 Experience in working international startup companies, private equity market or merger and acquisition is preferred 
  • Experience in the international scenario, especially in import/export business 3.3 Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to roll up one’s sleeves to get the job 
  • Skilled at working effectively with cross functional teams in a matrix organization 3.5 Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Stress resilient and flexible 
  • Special Training: Web based financial & reporting packages skill is essential
