Soufflet has started its operation in Ethiopia in 2017 is commissioning its malt factory in Addis Ababa while actively working on local malt barley sourcing.

To manage the operations of silo operations in our factory Soufflet is looking to hire its Silo Manager

 Core Mission :

The Silo Manager main mission is to manage the Silo Department. He/she is responsible of the reception, storage and availability of barley and the storage, bagging and expedition of malt and by-products. He/she is also responsible of the cleaning of the areas under his/her control. He/she is responsible to assign raw materials and finished products according to quality segregation rules.

Major Responsibilities :

  • Enforce the rules of hygiene, safety and behavior within the Department.
  • Ensure that production costs are in line with budget target.
  • Conduct the Department’s Continuous Improvement.
  • Contribute to new products development.
  • Contribute to personal development of the Silo Department staff.
  • Determine the barley needs in relation with the Factory Manager and the Production Manager and organize and control the reception of barley.
  • Determine the daily needs in term of extra manpower needed for reception of malt in bags.
  • Ensure the proper tracking of each reception.
  • Is responsible of the optimization of the storage of barley without altering the quality.
  • Ensure in collaboration with the Production Manager the preparation of the barley for the production.
  • Is responsible of the storage and expedition of the by-products.
  • Is responsible of the optimization of the storage of malt without altering the quality.
  • Is responsible for the expedition of malt, based on the customers requirements.
  • Ensure the proper tracking of each expedition
  • Is responsible for the achievement of targets of the bagging lines.
  • Anticipate potential gaps with the planning, suggest new lead-times.
  • Is responsible of the management of the barley, malt and by-products samples.
  •  Is responsible of the cleaning of the area, tools and machines within his/her supervision.
  • Identify and signal any deviation to the Maintenance Department.
  • Is responsible of the pest control as defined by internal procedures.
  •  Contribute to the Site’s budget building.
  • Manage the Department’s expenses.
  • Implement all appropriate means to measure the Department’s performance. Propose improvement action plans whilst assessing costs and impacts. Conduct projects and assess results.
  •  Assess the Department’s staff, identify needs in terms of skills and contribute to the training plan shaping and implementation.
  • Organize substitution in case of planned absence. 

Job Requirements

Qualification: 

  • MSC or BSC Degree in Chemical Engineering, Food Science, or related fields 

 Experience and knowledge

  • At least 7 years of experience out of which 3 years as a Manager

Skills Required

  • Technical skills: basic knowledge of pumps, conveyors, ventilators, bagging machines. Must be able to understand the malting process. Basic knowledge of automation.
  • Good organization and optimization skills.
  • Basic knowledge of lean methods.
  • At ease with Microsoft Office and Control System.
  • Soft skills: must be able to work in team with the team leaders and the Production and Maintenance Managers. Must be able to delegate and trust his/her team. Accountable.
  • Good communication skill with his/her team but also with his/her hierarchy.
  • Good proficiency in English (written, spoken). Able to write clear procedures and reports
