Job Summary

Position - Counselor (Psychologist)

ROLE PURPOSE:

The counsellor (Psychologist) will be Under the guidance and technical support of the case management officer, and CP project coordinator- He/she is responsible for working closely with children, community and government stakeholders for provision of effective, efficient and quality psychosocial support both in individual and group therapy techniques to improve the wellbeing of beneficiaries. In addition, appropriate recommendation will be given for project staffs concerning the wellbeing of the individual and faced problems in order to pass the right decision and to provide the necessary supports. Moreover, further case referral for sever mental/physical problem cases will be handled along with social workers and other project teams.

 KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide Psychosocial support services

  • To provide psychological counselling, psychologist interventions, support and engagement to individuals and to facilitate/lead group therapeutic activities.
  • Conduct psychological assessments, manage casework, and make referrals as necessary
  • Record and document relevant activities (e.g. case notes/files)
  • Daily Follow up of unaccompanied and separated children (UASC) in the temporary shelter and improve their wellbeing

Team & Partnership Working

  • To work with the EMP team members to deliver the service and contribute for good team spirit
  • Work with, and support colleagues especially with social workers and case management officers.
  • Network, liaise and communicate with other partners mainly with Gendawuha hospital.
  • Support and provide appropriate recommendation regarding best interest determination (BID) panel to guarantee best interest of the children.
  • Advocate for legal and medical and other referral support services for beneficiaries.

Planning and Reporting

  • In collaboration with the project team and stakeholders prepare detail annual and quarters action plan and ensure the implementation.
  • Closely work with social workers, case management officer and stakeholders in the course of project planning and implementation.
  • Facilitate and ensure the involvement of children as primary stakeholders in all project work.
  • Ensure preparation of timely and quality quarterly and annual project progress reports.

Respect of confidentiality

  • Strictly respect the confidentiality of data, being the property of the project beneficiaries and SCI
  • Ensure beneficiaries files/ data’s are properly put and locked.

Respect the confidentiality regarding the content of interview during assessments.

General:

 Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

  • MA/BA degree in Psychology. Relevant training and/or work experience in the field of Child Care practice (e.g. psychosocial work), familiarity with participatory methods, knowledge in child development,
  • Previous 5 years of experience working with vulnerable children and adolescents in a corporate or NGO environment, preferably in protection or community based child protection field;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with empathy and respect
  • Fluency in English/ verbal and written
  • Fluency in Amharic language required
