The Position: The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) is looking to hire three Data Transcriptionists who will be responsible for listening to audio recordings of interviews or group discussions, interpret and transcribe them into English. The work is expected to be undertaken and made available for analysis as soon as field data becomes available.
General: The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 15 CGIAR research centers dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Background
The Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), in partnership with the World Bank, is currently implementing the Livestock and Fisheries Sector Development Project (LFSDP). To support the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of the project and lay the foundation for subsequent sound and scientific impact assessment, a baseline survey was conducted in the project areas and selected control sites in 2019. ILRI has now been contracted to conduct a Mid-Term Review (MTR) of the LFSDP and seeks to recruit consultants who will be part of the ILRI team working on this MTR.
Main Duties:
- Interpreting audio recordings of key informant interviews and focus group discussions and converting them into English texts;
- Translation of interviews and group discussions held in different languages (mainly Amharic and Afan Oromo) to English text documents;
- Review the text document they transcribed for language and content errors, make necessary edits before submitting to the M&E team members/supervisors;
- Transcription of audio recordings as soon as she/he received the audio-records and submitting the text document to the M&E team/supervisors;
- Respect confidentiality of the content of information being transcribed.
Requirements
Education
- At least a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural/development economics, agriculture, project management, rural development, development studies and related fields.
Experience
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in transcription of livestock/agriculture related audio records.
Skills
- Listening skills to be able to carefully listen to audio recordings and interpret them appropriately
- Time management: must work quickly but efficiently, keeping tight deadlines and managing time effectively;
- Detail oriented;
- Excellent verbal and written skills in English;
- Fluency in listening and writing in Amharic and Afan Oromo languages and translation of these languages to English;
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work under pressure;
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software;
- Ability to comfortably use sound recorders and handle audio-records.
Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia with expected travel to Amhara, Oromia & SNNP Regions
Terms of appointment: This is a Consultant position based at ILRI’s Addis Ababa campus. Initial appointment is for one month which will not be renewable.
