International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)

Position: Research Associate II - Animal Health

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Co-ordinates and participates in field work related to Silvopastoralism and Welfare of Animals in Borana;
  • Strengthen day-to day interaction with consortium partners and national partner institutions;
  • Collates research outputs, contributes to technical reports for donors and contributes to scientific publications;
  • Organizes trainings and workshops for partner organizations, veterinarians, extension agents and farmers;
  • Supports the analysis of data generated as part of various research projects.

Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Grade: HG 11

Minimum Monthly Base Salary: Birr 17,082 (negotiable depending on salary history of the candidate)

Terms of appointment: This is a National Staff (NS) position, initial appointment is fixed term for one year with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding. The ILRI remuneration package for nationally recruited staff in Ethiopia includes a very competitive salary and benefits such as life and medical insurance, offshore pension plan, etc.

The ILRI campus is set in a secure, attractive campus in Addis Ababa. Dining and sports facilities are located on site.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in veterinary medicine or related livestock sciences

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience
  • A particular interest and experience in animal welfare and experience on veterinary epidemiology
  • Experience of working in pastoral settings or relevant experience in agroforestry and natural resource management are an advantage.
  • Experiences in working within the national agricultural research system, clinical experiences and. Experience of working in pastoral settings or relevant experience in agroforestry and natural resource management are an advantage.

Skills:

  • Strong quantitative skills, incl. data management, and experience in engaging with livestock communities using participatory methods
  • Interest in quantitative and qualitative research methods will be an advantage
  • Excellent oral and written English skills
  • Good communication skills with different stakeholders and good understanding of pastoral production systems
