Job Description

Key responsibilities for hygiene officer and team leader

  • Lead the whole activities of the emergency response to people affected by the conflict in the project intervention areas;
  • Lead project activities such as monitoring of project quality, M&E and budget management;
  • Lead the development of procurement, activity and budget plans for the Project;
  • Lead the operation team in reviewing progress and results, identify gaps and solutions and share technical ideas for the project staff as well as his/her supervisors
  • Support all staff with technical and management inputs relating to project activity
  • Select target communities and project priority groups jointly with project staff, local government representatives and communities and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Conduct training on relevant thematic areas and other project interventions;
  • Provide technical backstopping and facilitation, work closely with partners, field staff, and cluster based stakeholders, networks, and community members to ensure achievement of objectives in timely and cost effective manner;
  • Undertake water sanitation and hygiene promotion activities in the project intervention areas in accordance with LWF policies, priorities and standards.
  • Report regularly on Sanitation and Hygiene activities implemented in the project intervention kebeles and prepare monthly project end reports and submit to his immediate supervisor;
  • Prepare the distribution list and liaise with the kebele and woreda government structure to ensure proper distribution of WASH NFIs
  • Liaise with other sectors, particularly with the government water, health and early warning offices, to implement and monitor Sanitation and Hygiene activities in the intervention kebeles and woredas
  • Ensure the needs of vulnerable group, mainstream gender, vulnerability and protection in all of the hygiene promotion activities.
  • Ensure accountability and transparency in all activities to the beneficiaries, line managers, partner agencies, and the Government.
  • Conduct Hygiene promotion campaign to create awareness using sanitation and hygiene promotion tools
  • Monitor WASH NFIs supply chain and stock levels.

Job Requirements

Required qualification and Work Experience:  

  • Masters of Bachelor Degree in hygiene and sanitation and other related fields
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience for Bachelor degree and 1 years for Master’s Degree.

 Key competencies:

  • Knowledge of Tigrigna and Amharic is mandatory
  • Strong communication skill in English (written and oral)
  • Ability to interact with people
  • Experience in areas of WASH particularly, hygiene promotion
  • Interested to work under pressure and in harsh environment
  • Previous related experience in NGO setup is an advantage
