Mercy Corps has been operating in Ethiopia since 2004, working in rural, peri-urban and urban areas in Six regional states: Somali, Oromia, Afar, Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples(SNNP), Amhara, Gambela and the capital city of Addis Ababa. We engage in both development and humanitarian work, and seek to integrate approaches, programs and geographies as much as possible. Our partners include government, academic institutions, development and private sector actors, civil societies and participating public. Mercy Corps has a growing portfolio of programs in Ethiopia that focus on food security; agriculture and livestock market systems development; maternal and child health and nutrition; youth economic productivity; resilience and humanitarian response. In Ethiopia, some of our donors include USAID, SIDA, EU, DFID, and WFP.

Mercy Corps is an international, non-governmental humanitarian relief and development agency with headquarters in the UK and USA operating in over 40 countries. The agency exists to alleviate suffering, poverty and oppression by helping people build secure, productive and just communities. Mercy Corps has been operating in Ethiopia since 2004 and is currently working in six regional states – Afar, Amhara, Gambella, Oromia, Somali, Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples - and the capital city of Addis Ababa. We engage in both development and humanitarian programming, and seek to integrate approaches, programs and geographies as much as possible. Mercy Corps has a growing portfolio of programs in Ethiopia that focus on food security, agriculture and livestock market systems development, maternal and child health and nutrition, youth economic productivity, and humanitarian response. In Ethiopia, we envision a single country program, with a single mission, vision and strategy, actualized by different programs funded by different donors. All of our programs therefore should be planned and implemented in a way that reflects this vision.
The Communications and Social Media Internship will work to make this vision a reality. She/he will work closely with all departments to support the development and implementation of MC Ethiopia’s communications plan, for both internal and external consumption. In close cooperation with the program’s senior management, heads of departments, and program managers, she/he will identify communication needs, oversee and coordinate their production. Based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the intern will assist in supporting the country program’s efforts to grow a robust, innovative and impactful program portfolio.
