Job Summary
The Project Officer will be engaging and assisting in the day-to-day implementation of the HoA-ESR activities in the Gambella landscape, supporting project interventions towards effective and efficient delivery of services in line with the results areas of the HoA-ESR in the South West landscape (Gambella). The Project Officer will be based in Gambella.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Works closely with Gambella Children Community Development Organisation (GCCDO) and Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority (EWCA), coordinating the provision of technical support to the HoA-ESR in the establishment and implementation of the project in the landscape;
- Undertakes the preparation of the needed training modules/designs for the HoA-ESR interventions and in the conduct of such trainings and planning workshops;
- Mobilizes communities in protecting landscape resources: key biodiversity areas and relevant ecosystems through community monitoring and enforcement activities;
- Facilitates institutionalizing NRM local policy frameworks for improving local conservation of vital resources;
- Generates knowledge and promote experience sharing among stakeholders and documentation of success stories;
- Undertakes conduct of project site monitoring and supervision activities; and
- Undertakes the preparation of HoA-ESR intervention reports together with the Gambella Children Community Development Organization (GCCDO) (quarterly, bi-annual and annual reporting), annual action planning development and liquidity/budget planning.
Job Requirement
Education
- Master / bachelor degree in Natural Resource Management, Wildlife/biodiversity conservation, Climate Change Adaptation, Integrated Water Resource Management, Sustainable Development (Environmental science, rangeland management, forestry, agronomy or related fields)
Experience
- For master degree holders, at least 2 years, and for bachelor degree holders, at least 5 years of work experience in the field of natural resource management; protected areas management and biodiversity conservation
- Preference is given to those with work experience in non-governmental or international organizations with similar thematic approach
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Computer skills: use internet, email, word, excel and PowerPoint;
- Proven ability to link different sectors (water, land, livelihoods, energy) to promote and give guidance to sustainable development processes;
- Proven ability to facilitate and coordinate multi-stakeholder processes and maintain constructive contact with stakeholders in the field of natural resource management;
- Proven ability to work with community-based organizations in a culturally sensitive way; Strong affinity with, and knowledge of the nexus between poverty and natural resource management;
- Strong reporting, communication and proposal writing skills.
- Strong understanding of programme planning and budgets;
- Experience in project and program management involving government, NGOs, communities, private sector;
- Facilitating skills in networking with government agencies, private sector, donor institutions as well as natural resource management institutions;
- Basic knowledge on the sustainable environment and natural resource management;
- Appropriate knowledge and skills in Landscape Assessments and management planning;
- Basic knowledge and conduct of capacity building activities with communities;
- Experience in conduct of Demand Driven Action Research in rural development;
- Possessing leadership and good communication skills, among others
- Good knowledge of English/French is required and knowledge of the language that is spoken in the landscape is a distinct advantage;
- Analytical and decision-making skills, physical stamina
