The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation in Ethiopia is looking to hire an experienced, highly motivated and qualified person to fill the position of Physiotherapist 2, based in Addis Ababa.
PURPOSE
S/he contributes to implementing physiotherapy related activities in accordance with the defined strategy. S/he is a full member of the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team which ensures patient-centred care within the supported structures as well as in outreach, detention and social inclusion activities. S/he provides the physiotherapy component within the capacity building approach of partners and stakeholders.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Main Responsibilities
- Works in the Physical Rehabilitation Programme (PRP) team of different professionals having common operational objectives and participates in the overall physical rehabilitation projects setting up, implementation and follow up;
- Provides the physiotherapy expertise through the implementation of specific clinical and technical coaching, trainings and advices and participates within the follow-up of the implementation of the plans of actions and, if required, develops specific technical tasks;
- Is responsible for the implementation of wheelchair service provisions, in the scope of the physical rehabilitation services of all PRCs, and, together with her/his colleagues, insure quality wheelchair services, as well as the necessary trainings and monitoring at PRCs.
- Is in-charge of the PRP wheelchair basketball; plans activities with the related stakeholders, organizes and implements trainings and events, monitors the quality and impact of the actions and reports to the concerned bodies.
Main tasks
Provision of physiotherapy expertise in the assisted PRCs (TS);
- Defines, together with partners PRCs, physiotherapy yearly objectives and action plans for ICRC support;
- Leads by example to set multi-disciplinary approach and standards supporting the physical rehabilitation activities of the partners;
- Support the development and implementation of national standards in physical rehabilitation;
- Ensures that the PRC maintain appropriate patients' records;
- Supervises and guides local physiotherapists in maintaining appropriate patients’ record, ensuring correct assessment and adequate treatment plan and follow up;
- Supervises and guides local physiotherapist and assistant Physiotherapy staff in the provision of wheelchair services, and other walking aids;
- When required, and in presence of local physiotherapist(s) with the objectives to show appropriate protocol / practices, provides direct physiotherapy treatment to a patient;
- Improves the management of physiotherapy clinical & technical activities in the respect of the ICRC physiotherapy standards;
- Actively contribute to the networking in the physical rehabilitation sector including social inclusion actors and components;
- Participates actively to the evaluation & monitoring of the physiotherapy services (BF&TA) at the concerned PRCs.
Leads the PRP wheelchair services;
- Organizes, implements and monitors the PRP actions for quality wheelchair services in all concerned PRCs, ensures the appropriate inclusion of wheelchair services in the overall physical rehabilitation services;
- Directs her/his colleagues in the supervision of wheelchair services at all involved PRCs and the true fulfilment of this PRP objective;
- As PRP focal point for wheelchair services, ensures all communications with other departments engaged or interested in wheelchair services;
- Represents the PRP toward interlocutors and relevant authorities related to this activity.
Runs the wheelchair basketball project;
- Perform the role of focal point for the PRP wheelchair basketball project, communicates with the relevant authorities, disabled associations, Paralympic federation and regional bodies effectively;
- Support and advise the Ethiopian Wheelchair Basketball Association in the development of its national and regional structures, in the organization national tournaments, exhibitions and trainings and in the Ethiopian participations to international competitions;
- Coordinates and organises the visit of international expert trainers / classifiers in line with ICRC yearly objectives;
Participates in the overall PRP activities;
- Provides any kind of support regarding physical rehabilitation meetings or sessions, courses agenda, presentations, etc;
- Provides briefings of mobile and resident staffs, if required in the field assigned locations, in relation to physical rehabilitation programme;
- Collaborates to update interlocutor's contact information in the respective databases;
- Represents the ICRC PRP in internal routine meeting at the assigned field locations – i.e. weekly meeting – as well as any ad hoc meeting, on request;
- When necessary, do professional interpretation between the expatriates and the interlocutors;
- Ensures periodical TS visit reports are submitted to the team leader and briefs the PRP Manager on activities;
- Contributes to the weekly, monthly & annual reports and statistics with input related to Physiotherapy activities in the PRCs;
- Registers and treats information confidentially and with accuracy, maintaining adequate communication among the PRP members.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Follows up on all work-related messages and correspondence with the relevant contacts and departments
- Is aware of the delegation’s objectives and has a good knowledge of the Movement and other contacts relevant to the position
- Collects and shares information so as to improve the ICRC’s understanding of the environment and humanitarian trends and responses
- Represents the ICRC in an appropriate way during activities, in meetings and in the field, and avoids any activity that may reflect negatively on the ICRC’s image
- Takes responsibility for their own professional learning and development
Job Requirements
- BSc in Physiotherapy.
- Preferably, a minimum of 4 years practice in physiotherapy service delivery after graduation
- Strong team spirit.
- Strong communication skills,
- Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds.
- Good spoken and written knowledge of English and Amharic.
- Rigorous and trustful person.
