Job Description

The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training.

Summary

This position is intended to improve the quality of public relation activities of the Institute by, among other things, improving the website and other public relation documentation to promote AHRI. 

Key Responsibilities:

·        Write website posts and to promote our research outputs and services

·        Proofread, re-structure and edit articles by content writers

·        Update our website and social media pages with new content in collaboration with the PR Directorate and appropriate research divisions.

·        Interview researchers and use online sources to understand AHRIs scope.

·        Improve illustration in collaboration with public relation team

·        Generate new ideas around AHRI’s focus and related topics relevant to public communications.

·        Edit ( both the content and language) the PR documents for media and publication in social media

·        Support the Public Relations Directorate in preparing and distributing regular newsletters, media briefs and related activities.

Job Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related field AND Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Health Sciences, or Medicine AND 4 year work experience of which minimum two years proven work experience as a Content Editor, Web Editor or similar role; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related field AND Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Health Sciences, or Medicine AND 6 years work experience of which minimum two years proven work experience as a Content Editor, Web Editor or similar role

Other Competencies:

  • Portfolio of published work
  • Excellent writing and editing skills in English
  • Attention to details
  • Hands-on experience with Content Management Systems (e.g. WordPress or similar software)
  • Team spirit
