ISFM+
The Integrated Soil Fertility Management Project (ISFM+) aims at improving soil productivity and health in 4 Ethiopian highland regions. The project works closely with federal and regional research and development partners.
Position: Deputy Project Manager

Place of Work: Addis Ababa ( with frequent travel to regions )
- In coordination with the ISFM+ Project Manager ensure the successful implementation of the ISFM+ project and the achievement of ISFM+ objectives and indicators following GIZ-standards, best practices as well as rules and regulations and
- Deputize for the ISFM+ Project Manager in an independent, reliable and compliant manner
- Support the ISFM+ Project Manager in effectively managing the Project in the 4 highland regions (Amhara, Oromia, SNNPR, Tigray)
- Supervise and backstop ISFM+ staff in the regions and at federal level, utilizing GIZ’s leadership tools
- In consultation with the ISFM+ Project Manager and GIZ Regional Managers, guide and support activities of the regional ISFM+ teams and implementation partners
- Effectively liaise with partner institutions, GIZ Green Sector projects and other relevant projects / actors
- Lead and coordinate the preparation of reports, promotional, training materials and other documents, including lessons learned
- Ensure the incorporation of gender aspects in the planning and implementation of ISFM+ activities
- On behalf of the ISFM+ project, support the MoA in the drafting of soil related policy and strategy documents
- Contribute to the development of innovative implementation procedures/protocols and of new project ideas
- Contribute to ISFM+ project M&E activities
- Provide guidance to and closely work with consultants engaging with the ISFM+ project
- In collaboration with other ISFM+ project staff, organize workshops, trainings and meetings
- Contribute to the piloting of the concept of agro-ecology
- Perform other assignments as required
Job Requirements
Qualifications
- MSc in Agronomy, Agriculture or other related fields
Professional experience
- At least 5 years professional experience (on similar position) in the areas of agronomy, soil fertility management, agricultural extension, climate smart agriculture or other relevant topics
- Experience in successfully leading teams of 5 or more staff for at least 2 years
- Experience of working on institutional linkages and collaborations with the Ministry of Agriculture and other institutions at national level is required
Other knowledge, additional competencies
- Excellent English language skills, both written and oral
- Proven ability to produce high quality reports and documents
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office applications. Knowledge of GIS and Graphic design software is a strong plus
- Strong advisory and negotiation skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills targeting different audiences
- Experience in working in multi-disciplinary and diverse teams
- Willingness to learn and grow independently and proactively
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines under tight schedules
