Job Description

Context of the mission     

Médecins du Monde (MDM) is a French Non-Governmental Organization involved in humanitarian medical aid, operating in Ethiopia since 1988.

In June 2017, MdM had conducted an exploratory mission in corridor AA - Djibouti, focused on the Afar part (zone 1) on Sex Work/GBV/SGBV for 3 years project under title: “Reducing GBV against Sex Workers on AA to Djibouti Corridor focused in Afar region Zone 1. Since January 2019, the project is under implementation with the objective of engage FSWs by improving access to integrated health services, psychosocial and legal support, and basic rights. Nikat association is partnering with MdM in the implementation of the project.

Nikat Charitable Association is community-based NGO, first established in 2006 by FSW, registered since 2010, and based in Addis Ababa. It is composed of 200 women who are former and current FSW as members. The association is engaged in different health and income generating projects on advocating for universal access to health services, mainly HIV and sexual/reproductive health services, peer education and outreach service, advocacy for FSWs' rights, social marketing activities, information education and communication for behavioral change and fight against stigma and discriminations, fighting against GBV among FSWs, provide friendly services in DICs (during the day) primarily targeting Female sex workers (FSWs) working in hotels & bars, street FSW, waitresses and low income women. MdM – Nikat partnership is vital to engage FSW in different phases of the project for the successful implementation of planned activities. For the implementation of this Project, MdM is looking for:

 Hierarchical & Functional links

Under the direct supervision of the Director/Programs Manager of Nikat Charitable Association, organizes details of all activities related with fund raising, grants management and resource mobilizing. Coordinates all arrangements and ensures the smooth functioning of the activities related with fund generation, resource mobilization and grants management.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  •  Take the lead in identifying current and prospective funding opportunities, listing them and sharing the information with the Director/Program Manager.
  • Effectively assist with funding proposal writing processes. This involves writing project and budget plan proposals.
  • Leads the development of a fund generation and resource mobilization activities. Work plan and constantly follow-up the implementation of the plan. This involves designing and writing materials for communications with different prospective donors and agencies.
  • Assist in mobilizing non-financial resources from private sectors entities, individuals and corporate agencies.
  • Coordinate processing of agreements in connection with funding opportunities and ensure effective and timely follow-up in terms of submission of reports to the donors and grant renewal proposals.
  • Building valuable contacts and networks, and earning the interest, support, and in-kind contributions of people important to the organization.
  • Provide leadership and input to strategic planning activities.
  • Inform management of important news, connections, and leads.
  • Share the organization’s work and successes with the wider community, including national and international NGOs as well a with authorities.
  • Read the local news for announcements and notices related to the organization’s core areas of interest.
  • Invite speakers from international Non-governmental organizations (INGOs,) Foundations, Bi-lateral Funding Agencies to question and answer sessions at your organization.
  • To identify and analyze requirements to establish and maintain income generating opportunities to support project implementation, administration, and operations.
  • Support in the implementation of income generating activities of the organization and for the target beneficiaries.

Contract duration: For 6 Months

Base position:

  • At Nikat Charitable Association head office in (Akaki) Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He/She will also regularly work with MdM team in Addis Ababa and may have trips to Afar region around Semera where Nikat implement part of its activities.

Salary and other Benefit:

  • As per Salary Grid based on candidate profile – Monthly Gross salary including transport allowance 20 400ETB to 21 400ETB and 13th month.

REPORT TO:

  •  Director/Program Manager of Nikat Charitable Association and MDM program coordinator in Semera.

Job Requirements

Expected profile

Qualification:

  • At least having a master’s degree in Development Studies, business administration, economics, or other
  • Fund raising, grants management and resources mobilization skills
  • Mastery of English communication skills, both written and oral; ability to effectively communicate both internal and external
  • The ability to work collaboratively with teams
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and an ability to work within tight deadlines. A commitment to excellence in order to meet high quality standards expected internally and externally.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Experience:

  • Five years of relevant experience in NGO fundraising, preferably in an international setting
  • Proven track record of generating significant funding.
  • Experience and expertise in developing and maintaining good relationships with donors or funders in Ethiopia
  • Expertise in the context of sex work programming in Ethiopia and of donors who fund this sector in Ethiopia and abroad.
