The Ethiopian Public Health Association (EPHA) is a health professionals association established in 1991 G.C. in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It envisions the attainment of an optimal standard of health for the people of Ethiopia and strives to promote better health services to the public.

The Ethiopian Public Health Association would like to invite qualified applicants for the following post:

Directorate/Office: Research and Publication Directorate

Reports To: Deputy Executive Director

Employment Type: Full time for one year with possible extension

Job Purpose

The purpose of the Research and Publication Directorate job is to lead and direct the overall functions of the directorate; identify and design researchable public health thematic areas; plan, promotes and coordinates the implementation of research, publication and communication activities; lead, coach, mentor and evaluates the staff under his/her direct supervision; produce periodic activity reports.  

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops short, medium and long term plan, annual budget of the directorate.
  • Identifies and designs researchable public health thematic areas and Plans, promotes and coordinates the implementation of physical and research projects.
  • Develops and regularly upgrades policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards on research, project management, publications, communications and other functions of the directorate and ensures its consistent implementation.
  • Ensures the quality of editing, translating and publishing of documents is done to the highest standard.
  • Gives support to conduct research on public health by acquiring and making available to scholars published and unpublished materials.
  • Organizes seminars, workshops and conferences with aim of disseminating research findings.
  • Develops proposals, seeks research funds and solicits linkages with relevant local and international institutions to conduct planned research projects.
  • Develops communication strategy and protocols that promotes both internal and external communications of the Association.
  • Initiates contacts with international institutions and organizations within subject fields appropriate to research programs of the Association.
  • Formulate and update quality assurance systems for research and publications in the Association’s journal.
  • Coordinates and supports the generation of income from researches and from sales of publications.
  • Leads, coaches, mentors, guides and supports the staff under his/her direct supervision; supports the development of high performing teams and ensures that appropriate procedures and policies are followed.
  • Produce periodic activity reports of the directorate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor. 

Job Requirements

  • PhD in Public Health with 6 years of relevant experience, of which 2 years in managerial or leadership role plus research methodology and project management training, OR
  • MD degree in Medicine/MPH/MA in Health Science with 8 years of relevant experience, of which 3 years in managerial or leadership role
