Purpose

With a focus on supporting ZOA Ethiopia’s Gambella Field office peacebuilding officer, This position will work professionally towards the implementation of peacebuilding projects of ZOA from Relief to Recovery-Gambella program office. Together with peacebuilding officer, community based sociotherapy officers, and other internal staff, he/she will be responsible for implementation of peacebuilding project at Gambella region, in all refugee camps and host community woredas

Typical Responsibilities - Key End Results of the Position:

  • Designs work plan and coordinates implementation of peacebuilding and social cohesion interventions for refugees and hosting communities in Gambella regional state. 
  • Ensures project targets are met according to work plan deadlines, and that the project is adequately resourced to carry out effective programming.
  • Conducts community assessments to identify critical requirements for program interventions with focus on refugees, internally displaced people and hosting communities.
  • Preparing project implementation plans for peacebuilding and social cohesion projects.
  • Prepare terms of refences for the execution of the planned and approved project activities. 
  • Produce report of the achieved activities on monthly and quarterly bases.
  • Build, maintain and strengthen relationships and work with Zonal level UN, gov’t and other officials to ensure smooth implementation of the peacebuilding projects and represent ZOA in related sector and consortium meetings and taskforces. 
  • Review existing programming and make recommendations for areas of expansion.
  • Conduct assessment to identify project ideas, diversifies peacebuilding tools and to measure project progress.
  • Helps in linking all projects with concerned bodies like bureau of peace and security, bureau of sport, and regional supreme court.
  • Supporting the officers in technical project implementation and giving directions for the responsible officers.
  • Ensure technical quality and accuracy of all ZOA peacebuilding projects.
  • Conduct regular field visits to project sites to verify quality/progress of the execution of peacebuilding and deliver supportive supervision to field staff.
  • Take the lead on technical proposal writing for peacebuilding programmes.
  • Undertake need and conflict assessment and case study reports on some specific best practices and lessons learnt in peacebuilding.
  • Leading the practical field works through creating platform for conflict resolution and reconciliation and its expansion.
  • Performs other related tasks as required  

Job Requirements

Educational Qualifications & Experience

  •  Personal qualities of integrity and commitment to ZOA’s mission; proactive, hands-on and confident communicator who will work positively and helpfully with programmes and operations colleagues in ZOA Ethiopia;
  • Experience working with INGO and valid experience in planning and implementing or managing programs aimed at increasing cooperation in resource use between groups with a history of violent conflict will be an advantage;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public administration and Management, Development studies, Peace building security and governance, International relations or related fields;
  • Minimum of at least five years’ experience in working on peace building project, governance issues with civil society;
  • Experience in projects planning, Implementation, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning;
  • Knowledge of the key issues and trends in Peace building and conflict resolution;
  • Ability to work independently as a part of a team to implement the project;
  • Proven analytical skills and ability to think strategically;
  • Fluency in English – written and verbal;
  • Experience in Field data analysis packages;
  • Effective IT Skills (Microsoft Office);
  • Planning, narrative and financial reporting skills;
  • Communication, tact and negotiation skills;
  • Conceptual understanding of peace building and conflict resolution;
  • Good knowledge and understanding in demonstrating gender awareness and sensitivity and organization code of conduct;
  • Ability and willingness to work as a member of the team, with people of different cultural, and religious backgrounds, different gender, and diverse political views, while maintaining impartiality and objectivity;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations;
