Role and responsibilities

The purpose of this paid internship program is to offer recent graduates the opportunity to gain experience within the sector while giving them practical experience in the field. This internship is one of two positions for a duration of one year.

Generic responsibilities (max 10)

These responsibilities shall be the same for all positions with the same title. The responsibilities shall be short and essential. Details belong in the Work- and Professional Development Plan.

  1. Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
  2. Implement NRC’s ICT policies and guidelines at country level
  3. Schedule computer related services and maintenance
  4. Ensure installation and maintenance of ICT security
  5. Promote and share ideas for improvement of the ICT function
  6. Provide ICT support and trainings to staff to the country

Specific responsibilities

These responsibilities will be shared between the two positions and will be rotated half way through the internship:

Equipment

  • Ensure maintenance schedule as per established routines with an external service provider
  • Configure and deploy new and refurbished workstations, laptops and peripheral equipment.
  • Setup and support audio/visual equipment for presentations and trainings on and off site.
  • Install and configure peripherals including scanners, external drives, monitors and other peripheral hardware.
  • Removal/disposal of non-functional equipment
  • Conduct monthly site visits to field offices to troubleshoot issues and maintain equipment and networks

 Software

  • Provide software and system troubleshooting and support both in person and remotely
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and update operating systems and user applications.
  • Assure that all software on NRC equipment is licensed and keep record of licenses.

Network

  • Monitor network to ensure network functionality and availability to all system users.
  • Monitor LAN and subsequent WAN bandwidth usage and advice management on LAN/WAN improvement.
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair cabled, wireless and other network infrastructure.

Security

  • Maintain local anti-virus software.
  • Periodically change WIFI passwords to limit unauthorized access

Users

  • Acting as first point of contact for all user queries
  • Ensure computer is set up prior to new hire start date and any related moves.
  • Handle the relocation of computer equipment as a result of office or personnel changes.
  • Troubleshoot, and repair user accounts and email accounts, assist in resetting passwords.

Management of Vendor Services

  • Work directly with vendors to schedule repairs and maintenance.
  • Request and evaluate services with vendors and service providers.
  • Work with ISP and other outside vendors to ensure dependable operations.
  • Work with vendors and vendor supplied systems to track service requests through to completion.

Training

  • Train new and current employees on computer software and ICT systems.
  • Keep ICT equipment, storage area and work area clean and organized.

Job Requirements

Generic professional competencies:

  • BSc Degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or related field
  • 1 year of experience is desirable
  • Fluency in English

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Hands on Experience and knowledge in hardware, LAN/WLAN
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (PHP, Python etc.) will be an added advantage
  • Prior ICT experience in a setup with environmental and geographical constraints.
  • Ability to work independently to troubleshoot, perform root cause analysis, identify and isolate technical issues
  • Willing to take ownership of issue analysis and resolution efforts and commitment to get results
