Job Title: Wastewater Treatment Laboratory Technician

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

This employee performs a variety of laboratory tests on raw and treated wastewater and other sources and assists with technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. This is a full-time position with position at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. The employee is under the general supervision of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform routine chemical and physical analysis of wastewater in various stages of treatment to ensure that environmental standards are met.
• Participate in the collection of water samples of plant influent at various stages of treatment and of plant effluent.
• Prepare solutions, reagents, equipment, apparatus and accessories and other supplies needed at the lab.
• Conduct monthly inventory of chemicals, reagents, solutions, and other supplies and equipment essential to laboratory operation.
• Prepare and maintain technical reports on results of analyses conducted.
• Clean, sterilize, calibrate, and maintain equipment and apparatus used in all tests and analysis.
• Maintain accurate files; enter test results into the computer and generate necessary reports.
• Perform quality control and quality assurance tests and maintain quality control procedures in the laboratory.
• Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures as well as national laws, rules, and regulations.
• Provide lab training to plant personnel on proper lab methods, procedures, and techniques.
• Participate in special projects as assigned.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

• BSc Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology or other related field of study
• At least 2 years related experience in similar industry specifically on wastewater treatment laboratory area
• Knowledge of principles and practices of qualitative and quantitative chemistry, mathematics, biology, microbiology, and bacteriology.
