Job Description

Financial coordinator is a professional who helps in executing the general administrative and clerical duties. Financial coordinator responsibilities comprise maintaining the financial records, balancing the books, identifying the discrepancies, providing resolution, generating reports, etc., by following the instructions given by the senior personnel. Financial coordinators are primarily responsible for executing their daily financial activities that are in compliance with the organization standards. They are responsible for working under the guidance of a Finance manager. They study, analyze, research the market trends, and help in developing strategies that assist in accomplishing the financial objectives of the Organization

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities of a Financial Coordinator   

  •  Support Financial Manager on budget planning
  •  To ensure timely completion of the assigned accounting tasks that are in accordance with the outlined
  •  Ensure the sufficient allocation of financial resources at relevant project sites and review financial
  •  Management capacity of finance and project staff, providing training, advice and support as needed.
  •  Support preparation of monthly, quarterly and yearly financial reports.
  •  Support identification and design where necessary, appropriate training for staff and partners in Financial management and planning, particularly with regard to donor requirement and reporting.
  •  Provide accurate and timely production of financial reports to donors and the effective tracking and reporting on multiple donor funded programs.
  •  To work with logistics staff to ensure logistics systems adhere to finance's minimum standards.
  •  Maintain detailed records for all financial transactions in an organized and professional manner
  •  Perform daily functions including recording all cash, maintain cash ledgers, monitor cash advances and Field expense reports, and reconcile cash on hand. 
  •  Provide required weekly reports by specified deadlines to the Finance Manager as assigned
  •  Ensure financial/accounting activity is carried out in accordance with Samaritan’s Purse field Accounting policies
  • He/she will responsible for making accurate entries in the accounting system to maintain an accurate filing system by processing the checks, expense, reports , and reconciliation of accounts
  •  Review and ensure accuracy of financial transactions for Samaritan’s Purse field operations based in the region as appropriate (includes vouchers, FERs, Cash Advances, transfers, etc.)
  •  Ensure all cash is reconciled on a daily basis, reporting any over/under to Finance Manager and Investigate any over/under situations
  •  Administer all cash advances to employees and partners, reconciling all receipts and remaining cash
  • Prepare and review payroll with all the applicable taxes and deductions.
  • Facilitate filling of tax returns with ECRA
  • Participate in both internal and external audits
  • Maintain close and cooperative working relationships with fellow financial staff and the Finance Manager.
  • Support banking and maintain a healthy relationship with the banks and tax office.
  • Provide support to Base Officer and/or Program Managers with regard to financial policies/practices and related areas as required
  • Identify areas for financial and administrative improvement and work to implement feasible Improvements
  • Follow all procedures provided by the Finance Manager and Country Director
  • Any other duties as may be required from time to time.

Education / Experience Needed

  • BA Accounting, Finance or related field of study and one to three years related experience.
  •  Experienced working with World Food Program and US Government award desired.
  •  MBA, MSC, ACCA/CPA, CCA would be an added advantage

Skills Required

  •  High level of attention to detail, good organizational and problem-solving skills
  •  Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  •  Ability to prioritize own workload, work independently and work to deadlines.
  •  Good interpersonal and team skills and proven ability to be flexible in demanding situations.
  •  Good coaching and training skills and ability to develop others.
  •  Sensitivity to cultural differences, and the ability to work in a wide variety of cultural contexts.
  • Willingness to travel at short notice and often in difficult circumstances.
  • Excellent communication skills and fluent written and spoken English
