Position: Construction Foreman
Duration of Contract: 6 months (with possibility of extension)
Job Summary
The Construction Works Foreman is a local staff employed under FH Ethiopia personnel policy, is responsible for the implementation of day to day WASH infrastructure construction activities such as latrine, shower blocks, pipeline extension and or water tracking related construction activities for IDPs in Camp setting around Mekelle city.
Principal Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee quality standards on site in communication with site engineer
- Oversee and ensure that all safety rules are being followed on site at all times.
- Monitor the attendance of crew/labor involved
- Coordinate daily tasks according to priorities and plans, adjusting as necessary due to weather, supply delivery and personnel.
- Report project status to supervisor, site engineer officially and regularly.
- Ability to delegate responsibilities to individual project activities to the crew members
- Resolve conflicts or miscommunication that may happen on site quickly and agreeably.
- Organize contacts and supervise machine operation for foundation excavation.
- Laisse with Local slab manufacturers for latrine construction and follow-up for timely delivery of slab products.
- Laisse with local construction materials vendors and appropriateness of it with on ground measurements

- Should adhere to all pertinent policies concerning safety and security policy of FH. Lapses in safe conduct can jeopardize the health and welfare of all staff.
- Obligated to learn and understand the security situation where he/she works.
- He/she has a responsibility to become familiar to social, cultural and other associated features of their duty stations.
- Abstains from inappropriate or offensive behaviour that can put FHE in a difficult position, impair operations, and jeopardize the health and welfare of all staff of FHE.
- Should promote safe conducts and exercises caution in all work activities; staff should accountable for own personal and professional actions and conduct.
- Safe guard the project/FHE beneficiaries
Job Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Diploma in construction
- 4+ years’ construction experience as a foreman leading and coordinating daily labor crew and machinery operators.
- Good computer knowledge in the area of MS word, MS Excel, Power point & e-mail.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- In addition to the above specific roles mentioned, the foreman will undertake any other activity or assignment given to him by site engineer or response manager.
- High level of initiative taking.
