Job Description

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. IRC has been working in Ethiopia since 1999 and is implementing integrated, community-managed programs aimed at improving the quality of lives and recover of livelihood of disaster-affected population’s through promoting individual participation, strengthening institutions and emergency response.

Job Overview:

The main objective of the Emergency Shelter/Non-Food Item Assistant (ES/NFI) is to effectively address activities in implementation of the ES/NFI distribution and cash transfer programming at grass root level including need assessment, client targeting, verification, distribution, monitoring, facilitation of post distribution monitoring assessment, client compliance feedback mechanisms, ensure community mobilization and local coordination internally with IRC other sectors/team and externally with government, communities, local leaders and other IPs.

She/he will be responsible for planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of activities of ES/NFI project in the IRC Emergency Rapid Response target districts of East Hararghe Zone of Oromia Regional State. The position holder will report to Cash Transfer Officer under IRC Adama Field Office.

Duty Station: Harar, East Hararghe Zone with 90% travel to target districts.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Diploma in Rural Development, Public Health, Environmental Health, Civil Engineering, Development studies & related field from recognized University/College,
  • Minimum relevant work experience of 2 years for Diploma holders and 0 year for University Degree holders.
  • Previous experience of implementing of Emergency activities, like shelter construction, NFI distribution, cash transfer will be an asset.
  • Experience on emergency response, cash transfer, community mobilization, hygiene promotion, CP or CWI.
  • Experience on implementing participatory and coordinating community mobilizations in the communities.

Other skills:

  • Good command spoken and written English.
  • Knowledge of the local language (Afaan Oromo) is must.
  • Basic computer skill is plus.
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as to work autonomously when required in hard-to-reach area and in high workload.
  • Ability to multi-task & carry out responsibilities independently with minimal technical support.
