Job Description

Position Summary

  • The Project Director is responsible for the overall leadership of GOH, LLC’s portion of the CDC/CARES project. This involves planning, implementation, reporting, monitoring, evaluation, and coordination of the workforce in this project. The project director will be responsible for (1) supporting facility-based surveillance for COVID-19 and other notifiable conditions at the selected health facilities and hospitals, (2) Strengthening woreda-level investigation and response capabilities to potential COVID-19 outbreaks including capacity to investigate outbreaks, recommend appropriate mitigation measures, and conduct contact tracing, (3) Ensure surveillance data is being generated and is being used for informed decision making.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Leads overall CDC/CARES project activities of the GOH, LLC East Africa Office
  • Serves as the direct supervisor to all regional staff members working for this project
  • Works with CDC/CARES project steering team to deploy SMEs to project-related activities in the selected intervention areas and track progress on activity milestones.
  • Represents CDC/CARES project steering team at key in-country and regional stakeholder meetings
  • Engages with partner organizations in country, establishes relationships with new organizations locally and abroad to complete the CDC/CARES project deliverables.
  • Performs needs assessments in conjunction with in country organizations to determine levels of support and engagement needed in workforce development, laboratory facilities, and surveillance capabilities.
  • Leads regular engagements with the CDC and Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) to provide updates on project milestones and deliverables in partnership with project steering team members, monitoring and evaluation staff, and SMEs.
  • Ensure compliance to all rules and regulation issued by the Ethiopian Government, CDC, and other partners and stakeholders

Employment type – Full time one-year contract with a possibility of renewal

Line of responsibility – S/he will report directly to the Regional Director

Job Requirements

Qualification and Experience:

 Required Qualification and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate must hold a PhD or equivalent Degree in health and/or biomedical fields of study.
  • The candidate must have a background in public health, emergency management, medicine, and/or veterinary medicine with at least 12 years of experience focused in leading large-scale capacity building initiatives in developing nations.
  • S/he must have advanced training in emerging/reemerging infectious diseases and emergency management.
  • The candidate must have deep knowledge of international relationship and the key public health organizations in Ethiopia.

Desired Qualification and Experience:

  • Experience in working with international organizations
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills
