Job Description

Position Summary:

  • The Business Director will oversee the overall business and operations of the Ohio State Global One Health, LLC office. S/he will ensure strict adherence to GOH LLC’s rules and regulations and compliance with the policies of the Ohio State University, Ethiopian government regulations, and fulfilling partner institutions’ needs. The incumbent will lead team of staff and oversee the development and submission of monthly financial reports that are in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS). The incumbent must be able to analyze situations and provide recommendations to ensure sustainability and growth of the organization. This individual is directly accountable to the Regional Director and will ensure operational effectiveness. This position will supervise all fiscal, asset and supply chain management staff.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Leads overall operational activities of the office in working with the Regional Director, Regional Technical director, Regional Administrative Director, project managers and other team members
  • Ensures operational efficiency through coordination and oversight of all fiscal, procurement, and asset management activities.
  •  Oversees all payment activity including: invoices, bills, tax, and other liabilities to ensure obligations are paid to the relevant authorities in a timely manner and works to establish and maintain suppliers/vendor relationships.
  • Ensures compliance with all policies, rules and regulation issued by the Ethiopian Government, Ohio State University and the Office of International Affairs.
  • Leads preparation and completion of monthly financial reports in accordance with GAAP and IPSAS, and compliance with accounting and fiscal management policies and procedures of partner organizations
  • Oversees the year-end fiscal closing process, including working with external and internal auditors.
  • Supervises procurement specialist and finance manager to ensure the appropriate preparation of all accounting and general ledger activities, including journal entries, receipts, payments , receivables and cash.
  • Develop tools to evaluate the effectiveness and current standing of business and financial plans and provide associated reporting monthly, quarterly and annually to GOHi Executive Director, Regional Director and OIA Sr. Director of Business Operations & Administration. Recommend strategies and provide necessary recommendations when adjustments to plans need to be made.
  • Develop dynamic business presentations and proposals for partners and internal communications.
  • Prepare business plans and budgets for new projects, as needed. Communicate this information with all relevant parties (GOHi project managers, OIA Business Operations, etc.)
  • Assists Regional Director in assigned supervisory roles and other duties and responsibilities.
  • Undertake additional tasks and responsibilities as may be expected of the role and as necessary to achieve the mission, vision, and goals of GOHi.

Employment type – Full time one-year contract with a possibility of renewal

Line of responsibility – S/he will report directly to the Regional Director

Qualifications:

Required Qualification: 

  • Candidates must hold a graduate degree (Masters or Higher) in Accounting and Finance, Business Management, Business Administration or related filed. Must be licensed and accredited as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. Must have documented training, knowledge and experience of global financial systems (GAAP and IPSAS). Fluency in written and spoken English required.

Desired Qualification:  

  • Proficiency in globally reputable accounting software, preferably QuickBooks. Experienced with MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), and business software platforms used for billing, invoicing, contracting, and financial report development.

Experience:

  • The ideal candidate is required to have the following experience;
  • A background in business administration with at least 12 years of experience focused in operational, financial, asset, and procurement management with at least 5 of the years in leadership position is required
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills at all levels, including presenting information at board of director level is required
  • A well-documented international experience in global development related financial/ operations positions is required
  • Documented experience in grants management and technical report writing, particularly with United States federal funding agencies is required
  • Documented ability to deal with varied tasks and to work under pressure to meet deadlines and targets
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead and develop initiatives within a strategic framework
