Who we are

  • SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. We started our humanitarian work in Ethiopia with the opening of our first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. Since then, we have expanded our programs to different regions where there are significant needs for intervention and where we believe we can work in partnership with all relevant actors to bring sustainable positive outcomes for children’s and young people.
  • Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and those that are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; we aspire that every child grows up with love, respect and security.
  • Since 2000, SOS Children Village Ethiopia Program Bahir Dar has been working on childcare and development in numerous sites across the Amhara region. Built on 20 years of experience and capitalization of best practices, the program’s actions are based on a child-­‐friendly approach.

Why we need you?

Currently, SOS CVE Program Bahir Dar is looking for consultants to design, plan, carry out and present needs assessment on child vulnerability in Lalibela town, North Wollo Zone, Amhara region to inform child-friendly design and implementation of development programs in the region. This need assessment will be carried out within the framework of SOS Results-Based Management (RBM) for Programs Toolkit.

Objectives of the Consultancy

  • An overall objective of this consultancy service is to design, plan, carry out and present needs assessment on nature and magnitude of child vulnerability in Lalibela town, North Wollo Administrative Zone of Amhara Region guided by the RBM Toolkit and SOS Gatekeeping Guidelines (2019).

Job Requirements

Education:

  • PhD or MA degree in Sociology or related social science disciplines, or equivalent with strong research and analysis component. 

Experience:

  • 3 to 5 years of professional experience in a relevant field; proven experience at senior level of specialist expertise in development research and assessments;
  • Proven Experience in conducting needs assessments to feed into strategic and operational planning, particularly in the field of childcare and development and /or strengthening child protection systems.
  • Previous experience working in the design, implementation or management of childcare and development operations with governmental or non- governmental organizations.
  • Experience in result-based management

Language Requirements:

  • Excellent command of Amharic and English a must
  • Advanced analytical report writing and presentation skills in English Language.

Duration of the consultancy: 30 days      

Additional Requirements    

  • Qualified applicants are required to submit separate technical and financial proposals as per the issued TOR documents.
  • The Consultant should be licensed for the consultancy work and registered with concerned Government Authorities and have valid legal requirements such as, Renewed Business License, Tax Identification (TIN) Certificate & VAT Registration Certificate (if applicable).
