Job Description

  • Plan International Ethiopia's main purpose is to seek Gender Justice for Girls, Adolescent Girls, and Young Women. We aim to help create an enabling environment where girls, adolescent girls, and young women are safe, valued, equally cared for, and have equal opportunities. PIE will contribute to the global strategy by aiming to reach directly 2.1 million Girls, Adolescent Girls and Young Women over the period of the strategy 2020-2024 and to reach an additional 6.3 million beneficiaries through its interventions.
  • The position holder will be responsible for ensuring quality program delivery of the overall She Leads project at district and community level. She/he ensures implementation of Plan’s policy on Safeguarding children and young people in PIE, focus on community mobilization, beneficiary selection for different capacity building trainings in bring positive social and gender norms, meaningful participation of girls and young women in decision-making in formal and informal institutions. The post holder is also responsible for ensuring integration, collaboration, coordination, communication and teamwork within and across other projects/ programs implemented by Plan International Ethiopia at community level. 

Accountabilities and MAIN WORK ACTIVITIES

Quality Project implementation, monitoring and reporting

  • Facilitate the lobby and advocacy activities of the she leads project at district and community level.
  • Facilitate project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the project at woreda and community level.
  • Organize different training, workshop and meeting at community level
  • Mobilize communities (girls, boys, men and women and influential [religious, CBOs, Iddir] leaders to promote positive gender norms and implement positive gender practices.
  • Establish and support community conversation and champions of change groups at community level for smooth project implementation.
  • Support formal (GYW lead CSOs, youth associations, women associations) and informal institutions (girls clubs, child parliaments) to advocate the issue of girls and young women.
  • Support and facilitate joint implementation plan of the project with relevant government stakeholders.
  • Monitor and follow up Community conversation and champions of change discussion at community level
  • Participate in the assessment and surveys in partnership with stakeholders
  • Facilitates effective participation of children, children with disabilities, families, communities and stakeholders in project activities
  • Facilitate and follow up material distribution at community level
  • Facilitate different field visits programs and review meeting at woreda and community level
  • Follow up and support in school and out of school clubs at community level
  • Provide regular technical support to partners and beneficiaries at woreda and community level
  • Collect data from beneficiaries that will be used as an input for case story and for other documentation purposes
  • Organize experience sharing among community groups, CBO leaders, COC youth groups and GYW focused CSOs
  • Collect, compile and report monthly report from Iddirs, GYW lead CSOs, Change agents, in school and out of school clubs, and youth COC groups
  • Report training /workshop activity as well as distribution of materials

Technical expertise, skills and knowledge

Qualifications and experience requirements

Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science, Social work, development studies and other related field at least 2 years relevant experience of which at least two years’ experience with NGOs.
  • In-depth knowledge of GBV, harmful traditional practices, gender equality, girls right and their relevance in their protection
  • Demonstrated experience of working on child protection, gender equality, HTPs, civil society development, lobby and advocacy, behavioral change and communications
  • Experience conducting joint supportive supervision with key stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of effective participatory monitoring and evaluation
  • Computer literacy in Excel and Word.

Desirable

  • Extensive knowledge of gender equality, child protection, lobby and advocacy, civil society development.
  • In-depth knowledge of project cycle management and child cantered community development programming
  • Knowledge of development issues, trends, challenges and opportunities and implications to community development
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships with colleagues.
  • Gender analysis and gender mainstreaming skills
  • Strong negotiation, influencing and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to ride a motor bike with first grade license.

Languages required

  • Fluency in English language is essential
  • In addition to Amharic, Knowledge of Local Languages is a desirable
