BACKGROUND

Living Goods (LG) has over a decade of experience in developing and implementing data-driven, digitally enabled performance management approaches for CHWs in Kenya and Uganda. LG is partnering with JSI, Dimagi and the Ethiopia Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) to strengthen the performance of the Health Extension Program (HEP) by leveraging data from the electronic community health information system (eCHIS) to manage, evaluate and incentivize health extension workers (HEWs).

OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

Living Goods in partnership with JSI is hiring for a consultant to provide technical guidance for the design of an improved, digitally - enabled performance management approach for the HEP, which will be tested in 3-4 learning sites across the country.

You will receive support and guidance from Living Goods in-country staff (Country Project Manager, Technical Advisor, Performance Management) as well as HQ staff. You will have weekly communication with the Deputy Director for New Country Expansion, who is leading this opportunity, and members of our Global Tech Team, who will provide technical support and input.

This role will sit in the JSI Ethiopia country office but will be managed directly by the Living Goods Deputy Director for New Country Expansion.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct user requirements gathering with HEWs and their supervisors in the field to understand their experience with the current performance management system and structures, as well as their needs and preferences for a digitally-enabled performance management approach. This will include segmentation of user journeys by task and role, data needed to capture current user experience, etc. and will require field visits to the three Learning Sites where implementation testing will be conducted. 
  • Contribute to the development of user journeys and personas (led by FMOH and Dimagi) for eCHIS performance management functionality based on insights from user requirements gathering.

  • Detailed user journeys and personas to inform modifications to eCHIS performance management functionality.

Job Requirements

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Technically sound. You have a university degree in any of the following: Design, UI/UX, public health. You have 5+ years of experience working in the design of digital health tools for an international development organization. You have 3+ years of experience eliciting requirements and synthesizing information from multiple sources to design rich customer experiences.
  • You have a proven ability to interpret insights into design solutions and design improvements, with an understanding of user empathy, voice of the customer, and organizational context and constraints.

Strong communicator.

  • You are fluent in written and spoken Amharic and have professional proficiency in written and spoken English. You have excellent communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills.

Self-starter.

  • You are self-directed and able to move things forward with limited input from others.

Multitasker. You’re able to juggle multiple tasks at once while ‘keeping calm and carrying on.’ You think strategically, handle ambiguity, and work well in a multicultural environment.
