As an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations, the federally owned The Deutsche Gesellschaft für International Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH GIZ supports the German Government in achieving its development policy objectives. GIZ promotes complex reforms and change processes. GIZ is implementing various energy projects in Ethiopia with the aim towards strengthening the energy sector transformation in cooperation with private and public sector partners, collaborating support a sustainable supply of energy services. This is intended to contribute to Ethiopia’s national strategies (National Electrification Plan, Growth & Transformation Plan, Climate Resilient Green Economy). The energy projects under the GIZ Energy Program Ethiopia include: Energizing Development; Energy Solutions for Displacement Settings, Green Peoples Energy and the Ethiopian-German Energy Cooperation. GIZ Energy Program Ethiopia works in close cooperation with the Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy as its main political partner. GIZ Energy Program in Ethiopia is responsible for the implementation of the project.

Responsibilities
The incumbent is responsible for:
- Strategic support, implementation and monitoring of project communication work under the supervision of communication advisor. The position includes specific communication tasks as well as administrative tasks. This role requires coordination with the Communication Advisor, other Energy Program Ethiopia (EPE) units and/or projects.
Within this context, s/he fulfils the following tasks:

Within the framework of the responsibilities of the position, he/she fulfils the following tasks:
- Support the plan, budget, implement and monitor project communication measures in line with the project needs and the overall GIZ Ethiopia and EPE communication strategy.
- Support the implementation of corporate communication and design guidelines
- Support the implementation of communication strategy and social media concept
- Support and follow up the production of digital and printed communication products developed by the project including for social media
- Collect contents for the development of project templates and standard project presentations
- Collect contents for the development of social media channel posts and write draft texts
- Conduct research and collect information for the preparation of social media posts, speeches, press releases or any type of written piece for communication purposes
- Documenting key project information and communication products or materials
- Liaising and coordinating with the Communication Unit, the Communication Network and other departments at the country office
- Liaising with communicating and PR services provides, project partners, and other key stakeholders as necessary
- Monitoring and documentation of project-related internal and external communication materials (press queries, press contact-list, press kits, invitations, press releases, clipping collection)
- Assist the content development for different print and online media
- Supporting the implementation of internal communication measures aiming improve overall information exchange and dialogue throughout the organization
- Promoting the use of internal channels and tools by project staff and distributing key information
- Maintaining information on internal communication channels as per the guidelines (IDA project page, GIZ project page and existing social media).
- Support the coordination and management or support to project-related events and international delegations
- Support the different event organization, management and documentation including photography
- Liaison with external communications services providers (e.g. agencies, photographers, printers).
- Handling internal administrative procedures related to the services provided (e.g drafting ToR, overseeing contract requests, following up on payments, as well as registration of all orders made)
- Support the project in any other task related to the implementation of communication measures.
General Duties
- Consults and coordinates with the Communication Advisor of the project and/or the Communication Unit and project partners as necessary.
- Keep constant communication with other office departments to carry out any administrative steps derived from the above described tasks.
Job Requirements
Required Entry Qualifications and Competencies
General requirements
Experience in:
- Implementing corporate wording and corporate design guidelines
- Conceptualization and development of communication products and tools
- Supervising production and quality of communication products and tools;
- Liaising and coordinating with various stakeholders and external providers;
- Event organization and management support including event concepts;
- Documentation including taking photos and knowledge management;
- Content development, editorial and copyrighting experience in English and Amharic;
- Dealing with administrative procedures;
- Basic design.
PR and press relations requirements:
Experience in:
- Addressing press queries and compiling press information;
- Handling distribution lists and contact data bases;
- Press monitoring of national media;
- Record in supporting PR and press relations related issues (or equivalent experience).
Internal communications requirements
- Experience in supporting internal communications processes (distribution of information within a project, company/organization, maintenance of internal channels such as websites, facilitating information exchange)
Formal Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communication, marketing, public relations, foreign language, journalism or any related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in a similar position.
- Basic knowledge of energy and development policy issues in Ethiopia.
- Experience working in an international and intercultural context/organization.
Other Qualifications and Competencies
- Proficient in Office 365 tools and applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, MS teams, etc)
- Knowledge of social media and other digital communication platforms with analytics
- Basic knowledge of desktop publishing and graphic design/video software is an asset
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, specially working in a team
- Ability to successfully understand and navigate a politically sensitive environment
Language skills
- Complete fluency in written and spoken English and Amharic
