Job Description

About the Position

This position created to strengthen the quality of care delivered to children who have experienced complex trauma, abuse and damaged attachment. It will enable our staff teams to provide more consistent and deeper care and therapies for all children, as well as target particular children with highly complex needs and provide them with more specialized clinical assessment and interventions.  The person will also play a role in training all staff around general approaches to traumatized children and help them gain confidence in, for example, de-escalation techniques, so that children receive consistent care and messaging 24/7. It will ensure that our social work, case managers and counsellor/therapist staff have clinical supervision and debriefing so that we can improve standards of care and support to all clients, as well as help to prevent our staff experiencing secondary trauma. 

Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide psychological and therapeutic support to children experiencing complex trauma and attachment issues
  • Mentoring, training and oversight of all staff engaged in direct child care to build and strengthen the whole team’s ability to provide holistic 24 hour/day psychological care within all HFJ programmes
  • Debriefing and clinical supervision of social-workers, counsellors and therapist in all HFJ programmes
  • Provide clinical advice to Hope for Justice staff and managers about ethical and effective ways to address complex trauma and wellbeing needs of beneficiaries
  • To design, evaluate and assist in the implementation of evidence based Psychological interventions; contribute to the design, development and evaluation of the Hope for Justice’s psychosocial programs and services including life skills, individual and group counselling and therapies
  • Contribute to the design, development of the Hope for Justice’s psychosocial programs guidelines and manuals including life skills, individual and group counselling and therapies
  • To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions, including trauma focused and victim centered therapy for individuals, children, careers, families and groups, within and across teams.
  •  Responsible for undertaking psychologically based risk assessment (using
  • standardized questionnaires and clinical interview) and risk management.
  • To manage highly complex information and sensitive situations involving exposure to highly distressing, traumatic and emotional material and communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients.
  • To ensure that all members of the team have access to a psychologically based framework for understanding the care of clients of the service, through the provision of advice and consultation and the dissemination of psychological research and theory.
  • To act as a resource to colleagues from other professions, providing teaching, consultation and supervision in relation to the psychological care of clients, their families and careers presenting with highly complex needs.
  • Conduct relevant research to assist in the improvement and evaluation of Hope for Justice services in consultation with senior manager or delegate;
  • To attend team meetings and casework supervision meetings as required;
  • To communicate with referring agents and clinicians in the community involved in the ongoing management of individual consumers and their careers.

Job Requirements

  • Master Degree in Clinical Psychology
  • 5 years experience working with traumatized, abused and/or exploited children and at least 3 years experience of senior clinical supervision at NGO context

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to write accurate, concise and informative reports in a high standard of English
  • Skills in participatory training techniques to a range of professional/non-professional staff
  • Able to maintain clinical and staff confidentiality whilst also ensuring child protection issues are professionally managed and escalated as appropriate
  • Strong skills in working within teams, in groups and individually
  • Ability to be organized, meet deadlines,
  • Ability to work within a team
