Sustainability and Value Added in Agricultural Supply Chains in Ethiopia SUVASE)

The “Sustainability and Value Added in Agricultural Supply Chains in Ethiopia (SUVASE)” project was initiated in August 2020 with the main objective of increasing the sustainability of the coffee value chain. SUVASE is active in four woreda of the Ilubabor zone (Nono Sale, Didu, Alle and Becho) and has offices in Addis Ababa, Metu and Nono Sale. For our office in Nono Sale we are looking for an experienced and motivated driver.

Duration of Contract: 31/03/2025

Remuneration: As per the GIZ scale

• Safe and responsible driving of project vehicles
• Drives safely and responsibly, respecting the traffic code, applying a correct, defensive driving style and adapting the driving style to the road conditions
• Serves all passengers and clients in a friendly manner
• Keeps the Trip Record Book up to date
• Agrees on taking over responsibility for one or two project vehicles
• Is ready to leave at any moment (fuel)
• Is responsible for project vehicle documents and its care, keeps vehicle logbook on a daily basis and registers each monthly check
• Calculate the fuel, oil, and lubricant (POL) use on a monthly basis, is responsible for a special petty cash for POL and submits vouchers to accounting on a monthly basis
• Does not use the car for his/her own private purposes at any time without prior permission from the Head of Administration or his/her assigned deputy. Such misuse of the vehicle is considered a serious misconduct, and will immediately lead to a warning and may result in dismissal
• Routine maintenance of project vehicles
• Cares for the vehicles (cleanliness)
• Makes small maintenance such as oil change, filter change, etc.
• Checks when the car needs to go to the official service
• Follows up on spare parts
• Makes reports for any irregularity
• Obtain and share information on street conditions, routes and other relevant issues
• Uses all available information (incl. actual radio news on traffic situations) to update knowledge of street conditions, effective routes and locations daily
• Exchanges this information with other office drivers
• Running official errands and procurements
• Handles small purchases like stationery, fuel etc.
• Runs errands for the project/office, e.g. delivery of letters/messages, payment of bills etc.
• Follows GIZ procurement rules and regulations and processes each small payment according to GIZ policy
• Assisting with other services
• Supports the project office with administrative tasks
• Collaborates well with the rest of the team
• Takes over responsibility for other tasks as required
• If there is no outside driving activity, he stands by in the office, supports his supervisor in case of need, and does other office work as assigned
• Report any incident whilst off duty that may affect his driving license entitlement, as well as any newly known health problems that may affect his ability to drive
• Assist in and/or carries out other activities and any tasks as assigned
• Undertake further job training related to his position and duties, if required
•  Special training programs shall be identified and selected jointly with the Head of Administration

Job Requirements

Qualifications

• Secondary school or technical school graduate
• Valid driving license

Professional experience

• At least 5 years’ work experience as a driver with references
• No major accidents in the past 3 years.
• Other knowledge, additional competencies
• Knowledge of automotive mechanics

Other knowledge, additional competencies

• Fluent in Afaan Oromo. English is an asset
• Reliable, honest, motivated, stress-tolerant and patient
• Familiar with the Ilubabor zone
• Discipline and punctuality
• Resilience and patience
• Appropriate appearance and attire (friendly manner with all passengers);
• Always ensures unrestricted availability of vehicles and reports restrictions immediately
