Job Description

Positions: Midwife/ Medical Assistant - Strengthening Conflict-Displaced IDPs Women and Girls’ Capacity (Contingent upon Funding Opportunity)

Contract: Six Months with Possibility of Extension

Principal Responsibilities

Key Result # 1 – Conducting regular appointments pregnant women and referrals as needed

  1. Identify pregnant women and women with other sexual and reproductive health needs within target population and conduct regular visits 
  2. Examining and monitoring pregnant women
  3. Support pregnant in the development of a birth plan
  4. Plan, organize and implement all sexual and reproductive health activities
  5. Provide pre- and post-delivery care for mothers and babies
  6. Provide information, emotional support and reassurance to women and their partners
  7. Ensure all pregnant women and newborns are referred to the Expanded Program on Immunization
  8. Support the care of survivors of sexual violence
  9. Refer patients with sexual and reproductive related health concerns to the appropriate level of care
  10. Coordinate care accordingly with IOM and other stakeholders in the different camps 
  11. Ensure rapid and effective response to the needs of MCH  
  12. Support breastfeeding and safe infant feeding thereby protecting the health of infants in these circumstances.

Key Result # 2 – Supporting clinical staff with antenatal care, safe deliveries and post- natal care

  1. Support care to women during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum period.
  2. Educate new and expectant mothers regarding the care for newborns.
  3. Prepare new and expectant mothers for breastfeeding.
  4. Visit women with gynecological problems.

Key Result # 3 – Reporting and Planning

  1. Support proper data management related to job function including data collection, analysis and reporting
  2. Assist with forecasting medical supply need and managing medical stock
  3. Participate budgeting and planning for the health and nutrition and provide recommendations on budget revisions to ensure maximum use of financial resources 
  4. Immediately report on the occurrence of any outbreak
  5. Make sure that infection prevention measures are adopted and effectively maintained
  6. Refer patients to the clinic services in a timely manner. 
  7. Contribute to assessments and reports on MNCH through partnerships with other relevant organizations and international networks
  8. Work with providers in WGSS to develop and maintain feedback mechanisms that can be used to improve the quality of care for women and girls in the center. 
  9.  Any other duty as may be required.

  • Be able to describe how gender issues relate to one’s job responsibilities and how gender equity can be promoted through the execution of those responsibilities.
  • Be familiar with the local Gender Focal Point(s), and go to her/him to learn more about gender issues, or when there is a gender grievance or harassment issue to resolve
  • Within each project and department, discuss FH’s Gender & Diversity and Sexual Harassment and sexual exploitation Policies, so that all staff are conversant with them.
  • Refrain from any comments or gestures that indicate prejudicial views of female staff, especially female supervisors.
  • In each Project and Head Office, ask women staff what changes would make it more “gender-friendly”, organization and implement the recommendations

Safety & Security Responsibility

  • Each FHE staff member should adhere to all pertinent policies concerning safety and security policy of FH. Lapses in safe conduct can jeopardize the health and welfare of all staff.
  • Every FHE staff member has an obligation to learn and understand the security situation where they are located. 
  • Each FHE staff member should adhere to all pertinent policies concerning safety and security. This includes, but not limited to, personal safety, road safety, etc.
  • Has a responsibility to become familiar to social, cultural and other associated features of their duty stations;
  • Abstains from inappropriate or offensive behavior that can put FHE in a difficult position, impair operations, and jeopardize the health and welfare of all staff of FHE.
  • All FHE staff should promote safe conduct and exercise caution in all work activities; staff should accountable for own personal and professional actions and conduct;

Job Requirements

Education and Experience/Certifications

  • Qualified Clinical health care provider (B.Sc. Midwife, Health officer)
  • Prior experience in an International NGO setting is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in MNCH programs with recent clinical experience.
  • Experience with safe deliveries
  • Experience with emergency first aid
  • In-depth understanding of national Reproductive Health, MNCH Family planning and HIV/ MTCT issues
  • Understanding of performance quality improvement approaches in a clinical setting.
