Roles and responsibilities
- Support and monitor implementation of the quality policy manual and safety program.
- Overseeing development and document control of standard operating procedures and other related documents
- Ensures that all staff uses and adheres to standard operating procedures
- Annually review all standard operating procedures and related documents
- Overseeing orientation and onsite training of new laboratory staffs
- Provides on-site training to laboratory personnel on all quality activities
- Conducts competency evaluation of laboratory personnel.
- Assist the Immunohematology laboratory coordinator on work load distribution and making of schedules and duty rosters
- Conduct monthly review of quality and technical records including quality control data
- Trouble shoot and provide solutions to QC problems
- Ensures proficiency panels are received, processed and reported in a timely manner
- Review EQA feedback reports with all staff. Assists in investigation of poor performance and identification of root causes
- Monitor and timely update quality indicators. Perform root cause analysis for any deviations
- Documents quality occurrences in compliance with the quality plan of the laboratory;
- Advises Immunohematology laboratory coordinator of significant quality control/quality assurance issues.
- Analyzes technical problems pertaining to specimen adequacy, laboratory data, and instrumentation; determine cause and rectifies problems in accordance with guidelines and procedures.
- Confirms abnormal results and result discrepancies and initiate follow-up to resolve discrepancies.
- Reviews and approve laboratory results according to standard operating procedures; report critical results or unusual results in accordance with established policy.
- Ensure and coordinate internal and external audit schedules, plans and implementation to monitor and evaluate the QMS process, manages corrective action efforts and advises Immunohematology laboratory coordinator and TB/HIV directorate director on the outcomes.
- Assists with inventory management of supplies and assure that laboratory areas remain stocked with needed supplies.
- Participates in in-service training of new employees and visiting students.
- Participates in the preparation for all inspections by accrediting agencies.
- Providing advisory services to clients
- Investigate and address any complaints from users of laboratory services
- Summarizes and presents at the annual management reviews the performance of the QMS
- Attend quality related meetings on behalf of the Immunohematology laboratory
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Immunohematology laboratory
- Ensuring that processes needed for the quality management system are established, implemented and maintained
- Establish and update manuals, SOPs and laboratory procedures based on the standard.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual progress reports on his/her activities as needed.
- Participate in internal and external workshops, seminars and conferences.
- Ensuring the promotion of awareness of customers’ needs and requirements throughout the laboratory organization
- Implement and ensure laboratory safety and safe waste disposal based on guidelines
- Conducts preventive maintenances for instruments and equipment
- Ensure effective use, management and control of QMS documents according to the requirements
- Collaborate in identification of relevant research questions.
- Assist in research intent/abstract preparation to be submitted to the directorate s/he belongs in.
- Collaborate in the development of research proposals through compiling and reviewing.
- Collaborate in the preparation of research tools.
- Organize and participate in field work and data collection.
- Collaborate in data encoding, data entry, data verification and cleaning.
- Perform other pertinent activities as needed.
Job Requirements
- BSc Degree in Medical Laboratory Science and Masters in Laboratory management and quality assurance
- At least 2 years of experience in clinical laboratory service and, experience in hematology and Immunology laboratory is an advantage.
- Training on Laboratory quality management system, SLMTA/SLIPTA, ISO standards
- Experience in laboratory quality management system.
