Project Information

Ethiopia Public Health Institute (EPHI) is an exciting and dynamic autonomous federal government institute having its own legal entity in charge of three main objectives as expressed in the regulation number 301/2013: 1). One of the objectives is conducting Research on priority public health and nutrition issues (based on national public health research agendas), generate, translate and disseminate scientific and technological knowledge. Health System and Reproductive Health Research Directorate (HS-RH-RD) is one of the directorates of EPHI which has roles and responsibilities to conduct national researches on health system and reproductive health.

  The Health System and Reproductive Health Research directorate (HS-RH-RD) has received financial support from countdown to 2030 through African Population and Health Research Center to analyze data on RMNCAH-N. The research project will focus on strengthening the analysis and synthesis of data at national level in the context of annual, midterm and end-line review of the HSTP by analyzing the coverage, equity, mortality, causes of mortality, and financial flow analysis on basic indicators of RMNCAH -N. In addition, the study will focus on maternal and new born mortality to understand the drivers of the rapid country progress since 1990. This strengthening is envisaged to inform in country reviews and accountability processes among countries supported by the Global Financing Facility (GFF), which aims to contribute to the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for RMNCAH-N in 50 countries.

Objective

The objective of this post is to ensure deployment of Public Health researcher, who technically support the overall national, subnational and regional data analysis in line with the intended purposes of the project and will contribute to the success of the project as a whole. To this end, HS-RH-RD is looking to hire highly qualified and energetic researchers who will technically lead data mapping, collecting, review and extraction, data analysis, evidence generation and translation activities.

Job Requirements

  • PhD or MSc in Public health/ Epidemiology/Biostatistics/ Demography with demonstrated Quantitative research experience
  • Minimum of 7 years for PhD and 8 years for Msc/MPH with proven work experience in progressive senior-level research, multiple data set analysis

 ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Quantitative data analysis using multiple epidemiologic and community-based data systems
  • Prepare data analysis template and visualization the findings  
  • Collates different data sets such as routine, facility and survey data     
  • Produce analyzed table as per request
  • Archive multiple data in a secured, password protected computer
  • Work closely with researchers, with local and international collaborators
  • Ensure the quality of Methodologies, data analysis, and estimations
  • Demonstrated ability to produce relevant findings using systematic reviews, in-depth analysis of maternal, child and newborn health related studies etc
  • Work closely with the Countdown to 2030 technical working group
  • Participate in the writing scientific manuscripts, technical reports, evidence briefs, as needed
  • Undertake desk review of the current practice of the health system and document relevant practices to inform the design of objective performance measurement tool
  • Minute taking and sharing to the technical working group 
  • Write descriptive and analytic reports of findings
  • Maintain regular correspondence with co-coordinator, and other members of the research and project team
  • Maintain regular Meeting with the TWG
  • Prepare periodic reports
  • Any other related task as may be requested by the task team leader and HS-RH-RD

Desired Skills and Experiences:

  • Demonstrated experience of data analysis using DHS or SPA or SARA survey
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a range of data management and statistical software (e.g. SPSS, STATA,) is preferred.
  • Tracked peer reviewed publications
  • Demonstrated ability to produce relevant findings using systematic reviews, in-depth analysis of maternal, child and newborn health related studies etc.
  • Demonstrated ability in virtual communicating to the stakeholders and health development partners
  • Familiar with existing health policies and strategies of the country and ability to identify research priority of the health sector;
  • A record of peer-reviewed publications in line with respective areas of discipline;
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills, energetic, passionate, patient, proactive and self-motivated;
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft office applications including Word, Excel.
  • Experience with CSPro software with additional advantageous
