Cordaid Ethiopia is seeking qualified professionals  Program Officer – Security and Justice

Responsibilities and Accountability

Provide technical Support to the project team

  • Undertakes analysis of information in order to contribute to the understanding of patterns and trends of conflicts in Ethiopia and their implication on Cordaid’s future programming.
  • Through relationships with persons of concern, authorities and network of partners stays abreast of political, social, economic and cultural developments that have an impact on enhancing the role of women in promoting peace and security in program target area.
  • Supports a consultative process with government counterparts at local levels, partners and persons of concern to develop and implement integrated strategies that address key priorities related to Security and Justice projects.
  • Under the guidance of line manager, provides advice and supports other Project Managers and Cordaid partners in the project design to ensure that all project proposals are designed with security and justice sensitive approaches, and the rights of women and girls have been clearly considered and included in the design and during the whole project cycle; and
  • Analyzes and ensures the interventions are aligned with security and justice project objectives and Cordaid Ethiopia Strategic Plan.

Monitoring and reporting on gender issues

  • Tracks security and justice project progress and provides evidence for further programming & study;
  • Supports in writing stories related to program and project developments as they relate to women empowerment; and document best practices of the program. 

Networking and Coordination

  • Supports in identifying and working with Civil Society Organizations, women groups, religious leaders, community leaders and other partners towards the implementation of the security and justice project agenda.
  • Manages and maintains relationships with government authorities, women’s rights platforms, local NGOs and other community-based organizations; and
  • Organizes and participates in working groups, meetings, conferences, workshops, and training programs with project partners on security and justice agenda.

Knowledge management, and knowledge sharing, and administrative

  • Coordinates the close-out of grantees by preparing relevant close-out documents for approval, close out checklists, release of liability documentation etc;
  • Assists in the logistical aspects of project administration and ensure security of distribution items.
  • Participates in meetings as directed and report on proceedings; and
  • Ensures good documentation of Security and Justice project. 

Fundraising 

  • Assists in the development of concept notes, project documents and research around the role of women in peace and security.

Job Requirements

Qualifications Skills and Competencies

  • Bachelor's Degree in Law, Political science, Social science or related field
  • At least 5 years’ relevant work experience in managing security and justice projects.
  • Good understanding on national policy and legal framework on human rights
  • Strong communication and awareness raising skills through media, social media, and campaigns
  • Practical experience in project cycle management, log frame development, and proposal writing.
  • Practical experience of working with local partners and community capacity building.
  • Strong reporting, analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Willingness to travel in field location with very basic facilities.
  • Excellent English writing and communication skills.
  • Diplomatic, culturally sensitive, result-oriented, innovative and a strong team player
