BASIC FUNCTIONS

Assisting in cow and milk production, planning strategies for maximum yield, organizing farm administration, working machinery, organizing associated businesses and managing staff. Controlling Cow and Calf care and monitoring their healthy condition continuously. Performing insemination and control their birth periodically.

MAJOR/CORE ACTIVITIES OF THE JOB

• Assisting Production Planning activities to maintain farm progress against budget parameters
• Involving in practical activities, e.g. operating machinery, feeding livestock, spraying fields, etc. as required
• Controlling Cow and Calf care and monitoring their healthy condition continuously.
• Performing insemination and control their birth periodically.
• Analyzing the feed requirements, such as feeds, medicines, supplies etc.,
• Assisting the maintenance and repair of farm buildings, machinery and equipment
• Planning activities for Milkers staff, mentoring and monitoring them
• Maintaining and monitoring the quality of yield and boosting production
• Liaising and ensuring with government regulations concerning farm activities are complied with
• Monitoring animal health and welfare, including liaising with vets
• Maintaining a knowledge of pests and diseases and an understanding of how they spread and how to treat them
• Applying health and safety standards across the farm estate
• Protecting the environment and maintaining biodiversity
• Understanding on modern farming methods, animal welfare, environmental impacts, customer demands, food standards, and sustainability and discus with Farm Manager
• Demonstrating animal care, farm maintenance activities.
• Conducting regular meetings with the staffs in coordination with Farm Manager
• Monitoring performance appraisals as per the policy
• Monitoring day to day production per cow against the targets and communicate to the management
• Maximizing the feed quality as per the standard food rationing
• Controlling the death rates by boosting the Female Birth rates
• Managing and handling the products and animal feeds
• Establishing weekly/monthly/annual health strategy and report to Farm Mgr.
• Developing SOPs for managing calves, Heifers, pregnant and Lactating cows
• Maintaining animal health traceability records
• Developing and implementing efficient Cow data recording system
• Monitoring employees health and safety
• Assists the Farm Manager in any operational activities.
• Performs other duties as may be assigned by immediate superior.

Job Requirements

Qualification and Experience

• BSc Degree in Veterinary Doctor and experience is not required.
• Fluent in Amharic and English.
• Oromiffa language speaker is preferable.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Trained in artificial insemination
• Knowledgeable of disease and injury treatment and calf pulling
• Knowledgeable in dairy nutrition
• Ability to motivate employees
• Ability to work with all types of people
• Ability to communicate with a broad spectrum of individuals
• Knowledge of milking procedures
• Knowledge of and use for Dairy Herd Improvement Records
• Skill for quick adaptation
• Excellent Communication Skill
• Willingness to work outside Addis Ababa
• Computer Skill
