Job Description

The WASH Research and Business Development Specialist is responsible to lead the overall work of the WASH Business Accelerator Fund Project in an integrated, and holistic approach, focusing on conducting qualitative quantitative data collection from relevant sources, analysis and generating of high quality results and evidence on effectiveness of the current model, impacts, and barriers for upscaling. The specialist is also expected to advise and provide business analytics and guidance for the WASH team, implementing and overseeing the WASH Business initiative. Also important for this role is the ability for fostering collaboration, team work within and outside the organization, and timely execution of the project with efficient use of resources

Major Responsibilities:

  •  Work with the WASH team and deliver support to other WASH team regrading to the WASH buss center & its research roll out
  • Support the sanitation & hygiene manager to communicate needs for project monitoring , development of research tools and strategies/templates as required
  • Assist and coordinate technical staffs, partners and field office staffs to develop & implement project tracking tools
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge on donor and government policies and support colleagues to ensure that Partners’ responsibilities are tracked and evaluated,
  • Facilitate WASH business center -Accelerated Fund /project coordination, information-sharing and guidance on donor rules to WV and Partner’s project staff 
  • Serve as a primary /secondary contact with partners and leasing with the partners for all matters pertaining to the research project, and WASH Business development.
  • Work closely with the partners and stakeholders including WV U.S and Emory University & to ensure compliance with project target and deliverables
  • Coordinate & participate meetings with partners, as required and as defined by World Vision.
  • Plan and implement of selected & designed research activities and set high quality performance targets ensuring adherence to the national policy, strategy and technical WASH business research standards, best practices and donor and internal guidelines;
  • Develop evidence-based guidance for how to leverage WV’s unique long-term presence and ability to generate demand in the community with supply side interventions to drive sustainable development gains.
  • Systematically document the existing experience around WASH business centre in the various districts where WV Ethiopia implemented the initiative.
  • Produce knowledge products and resources deliverable to contribute to the goal of improving branding programmatic quality and revenue generation, in collaboration with the WASH team.
  • Ensure effective communication and information sharing on WASH business development programming with in WV Ethiopia, East Africa, and WV U.S. - Contribute to knowledge networks and community of practice
  • Produce manuals, tools and guideline for WASH business centres
  • Participate in the training of project & other staffs concerned to WASH business Research and development.

Job Requirements

 Knowledge/ Qualifications for the role.

  • At least 8 years of experience in research projects, WASH business / sanitation marketing project management, M&E and or Information and Knowledge management.
  • Solid experience in M&E, quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis and report write up, scientific forum organizing and facilitation, preferably in the WASH sector.

Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification

  • MBA, MPH, MSC in Environmental health or a related subject preferred.
  • A combination of academic qualifications in business and health sciences would be ideal for this post.
  • Practical skills in WASH Data management, M&E tool development, project designing and development of MEAL and work plan.
  • Skills in WASH business/market-based sanitation research , data analysis

 Working Environment / Conditions

  • Field visit travels of up to 75 % of the time
  • Work station: Head Office
