Post Title:  Community Facilitator

Reports to:  Senior Project Officer 

Duty Station: Afar Regional State, Yallow and Megalle

Required:  Four (Two for Yallow and Two for Megalle)

Duration: Four months

Responsibilities Overview: 

The community facilitator’s role is to provide culturally appropriate support to community like initiating the community to participate in the project execution at all level and insure the project interventions are understood by the community. Provide evidence based services to the community in relation to the planned project interventions. Create a transparent and community friendly service in the project area where he /she is responsible.

The community facilitator will also be responsible for timely implementation of the planned activities, documentation of the project plans, outputs, outcomes and reporting as per the reporting schedule set by the project under close supervision of the Senior Project Officer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist and work closely with senior PLI officer on the project activity like planning, implementation, follow up and reporting.
  • Provide technical support to the community on animal health awareness creation, Women Saving Groups, formation of cooperatives and other income diversification interventions as per the guidance from the senior PLI Officer
  • Select the beneficiaries depending on the selection criteria set by the project for each specific intervention
  • Ensure the demand is created for the income diversification interventions and owned by the community for sustainability.
  • Undertake regular follow up for all the activities executed by the project and inform the immediate supervisor about the progress 
  • Assist and closely work with the responsible officer/s in the formation of cooperatives and other income generation intervention.
  • Scheduling appointments with community leaders while for selection of trainees among the community members for short and long term trainings.
  • Promote community capacity building and women empowerment while implementing the project activities
  • Create close working relationship with the local community members, leaders, local authority and project staff…etc.
  • Properly document and report project intervention as per the reporting requirements set by the project
  • Assist project staff on community based activities by informing staff members about language and cultural translation. This may include activities such as:
  1. Accompanying staff member during field visits to kebeles.
  2. Providing translation or support during visits, meetings, etc.
  3. Serving as a resource person to staff members.
  4. Perform any other assignments given by the immediate supervisor related with his/her competency  

Job Requirements

Qualification/Experiences and Skills Requirements

  • Must have completed grade 12 at minimum and relevant experience is advantageous
  • Must reside in and share experience, language and/or culture of the community to be served.
  • Must be able to work as a full time employee, a minimum of 8 hours during working days and weekends as well if necessary.
  • English language is preferred; Local language (Afar) is Mandatory
