Job Description

The Talent Firm is recruiting for a Program Manager position for one of its clients, an indigenous non-governmental organization. Our client is a network organization with over 160 member organizations working in youth empowerment, health, livelihood , environment and climate change, and ICT sectors. 

The Program Manager, reporting to the Executive Director, will guide and oversee the implementation of programs and projects and drive towards project objectives and impact. The successful candidate will be a hands-on, initiative-taker, playing leading role in the management and guidance of the program team in managing and implementation of program objectives by laying strong foundations to smoothly run programs as per the agreed targets and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage programs, projects and program-oriented activities
  • Develop project proposals, report formats, monitoring and evaluation guidelines
  • Prepare short and long term plan of action for project implementation and follow up and ensure that it gets approval of the Executive Director
  • Prepare work and budget plans for the different projects in consultation with implementing partners and gets approval of the Executive Director
  • Attend meetings, workshops and trainings representing the organization
  • Compile project and program reports and submit to the Executive Director
  • Design and develop or and follow up IEC/BCC materials in consultation with the Project staff or other person/external specifically assigned for the task
  • Coordinate monitoring and evaluation of the different programs and projects
  • Organize fundraising activities jointly with the Executive Director
  • Contact different organizations to build partnership and networking
  • Act on behalf of the Executive Director to lead legal issues of the Network when authorized by the Director of the network
  • Take related additional tasks and responsibilities from the Executive Director

Job Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Social work, Public Health, Sociology, Livelihoods or related fields
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in managing implementation of related youth livelihood or health programs. 
  • At least three years’ experience working in program management in NGO setting

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of one of the sector areas (Youth Empowerment, Health, Environment and Climate Change, ICT for Development and HIV/AIDS programs), challenges and opportunities;
  • Understanding of the donor environment, implementation standards and requirements
  • Ability to work independently and perform as a team,
  • Strong understanding and experience of program design techniques and project management tools ;
  • Strong willingness to deliver quality results to achieve organization’s ultimate aims;
  • Ability to work well under pressure and oftentimes under tight deadlines;
  • Partnership management abilities and working with members and organizations partners
  • Ability to travel extensively to the project sites in particular and to other locations when deemed necessary.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English. Knowledge of additional local language (other than Amharic) is of an advantage
