Job Description

Background

Population, Health and Environment Ethiopia Consortium (PHE EC), is a consortium organization engaged in addressing issues of population, health and environment in an integrated manner for improved livelihoods and sustainable well-being of people and ecosystems in Ethiopia. PHEEC is now seeking to recruit a dynamic and experienced candidate for the position of Environmental Program Officer and would like to invite well experienced and professional applicants for this position to apply. This is an exciting and challenging position, where incredible achievement is expected and the thematic areas mainly include environmental conservation and rehabilitation, climate change, resilience, sustainable natural resources management, sustainable livelihood and capacity building in the areas of Environment.

REPORTS TO: Environment and Climate change program coordinator

Experience: 3 Years and above 

Nature of Job: Fixed terms of contract, with possibility of extension

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Support the environment and climate change department in all sort of businesses as directed by the department head
  • Develop, maintain, support and/or coordinate environmental and sustainable development initiatives in line with the organization's objectives,
  • Develops project proposals related to environmental conservation, rehabilitation, climate change, natural resources management etc.
  • Develop and sustain local partnerships with groups, organizations and agencies
  • Ensure that the works and projects of the PHE EC complements and adds value to other existing local services, projects and initiatives and supports the development of the country 
  • Provide appropriate services within the overall team concept, while at the same time, maintaining personal accountability for success.
  • Support the coordination and collaboration of project implementers to ensure timely communications and deliverables.
  • Attend and participate in relevant technical meetings/workshops, create and maintaining partnership for future engagements with potential stakeholders.
  • Maintain up to date records and reports
  • Any other duty in relation to PHE, as determined by the Environment and climate change program coordinator, as and where appropriate and commensurate with the constraints of the post.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experiences

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Natural resources Management, Environment conservation or management, or in relevant fields. At least 4 years of practical experience in natural resource management for BSc and 2 years for Master’s, in Biodiversity Conservation, climate change.

  • Project management and coordination skill
  • Excellent communications skill both in oral presentations and in writing
  • The ability to synthesize and analyze information critically.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with internal/external partners and promote collaboration in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency using Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel, and, social media tools including Face book, LinkedIn, and Twitter for the benefit of the organization.
