Currently, Islamic Relief is looking for qualified short term candidates to replace staff who is on Maternity Leave in Country Office, Addis Ababa.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Finance Coordinator is responsible for contributing to the attainment of the IRE’s objectives by providing strategic and financial guidance to ensure that the organization’s financial commitments are met; and developing all necessary policies and procedures to ensure that sound financial management and control of the IRE’s business.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- Oversees the proper functioning of IRE’s accounting system.
- Reviews project financial activities against financial plan, prepare Transfer Request Form, collects fund transfer request from Program Department, and ensures timely transfer letter authorization and delivery to the Bank.
- Ensures segregation of duties, coaches, directs and manages finance staff to ensure that they are appropriately motivated and developed so that they carry out their responsibilities to the required standards with minimum supervision.
- Contributes to the achievement of IRE’s objectives by providing training advice and guidance on financial strategy to relevant non-finance staff.
- Develops and controls the organization’s annual operating budget to ensure that all financial targets are met and financial and statutory regulations complied with.
- Develops regular budget variance analysis and provides financial advice and guidance to the IRE’s managers and budget holders to enable them to achieve their objectives.
- Oversees the preparation of the organization’s financial accounts to ensure that these are presented accurately and on time.
- Develops and implements an internal audit program to ensure that the organization complies with financial procedures and regulations.
- Develops and maintains all necessary systems, policies and procedures to ensure effective and efficient financial management within IRE.
- Monitors external contracts and services provided by donors to ensure that these are operating effectively and provide the best values to IRE, beneficiaries, donors, and other stakeholders.
- Delivers periodic budget performance reports to the Management Committee of IRE.
- Reports year-end financial statements such as Balance Sheet, income statement and cash flow statement.
- Carries out all necessary actions to ensure that IRE meets its financial and legal obligations per internal IRE as well as governmental donor policies and agreements.
- Caries out any and all relevant additional assignment given by the country Director
Job Requirements
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
Formal Education/Qualification
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related fields and
- Professional accountancy certification (ACCA) is desirable
Work Experience
- 8/10 years of relevant experience in international NGO settings with 5 of these work experiences being as a finance coordinator.
- Proven experience in analyzing and interpreting financial data and information for decision making
- Experience in using one or more accounting package.
- Knowledge and experience of international donor (UN system, DfID, USAIDS, ECHO etc.) reporting requirements a must

- Excellent interpersonal skills – builds good relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Good command of verbal and written communication skills in English and Amharic
- Abel to plan, prioritize and organize self and others

- Sympathy with the aims and objectives of IR
- Commitment to humanitarian principles and action
- Commitment to child protection issues
- Computer literacy in MS Office is essential
- Proven experience in grant monitoring
