The Psychosocial Support officer is part of the Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) in the provision of free and quality health care for beneficiaries, stakeholders and communities. The Officer will be responsible of coordinating, encouraging and providing the Psychosocial Support services to the beneficiaries, compassionate care and support to the MMU team (doctors, nurses, midwife, and social mobilizers). Also desired is management experience and the ability to be strategic and work well in a team environment.
Job Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Organize and conduct psychosocial support assessment for beneficiaries who comes to the MMU.
- Provide psychological first aid and support to people who are experiencing stress.
- Provide psychological support for groups of displaced and returnees in the community.
- Provide care for victims of violence like GBV, sexual or physical violence.
- Develop personal relationships and create social support environment for patients and staff of the Mobile Medical Unit.
- Coordinate the calendar of daily team devotions by leading sessions and scheduling speakers.
- Provide follow-up care as appropriate to life situations involving patients and staff. (Examples: phone call, hospital visit, personal note, care card, etc).
- Develop a standard referral pathway for severe cases of Mental Health, victims of SGBV or torture, who may disclose to health staff, and ensure to provide safe, ethical and confidential referrals.
- Demonstrate a strong Christian witness to teammates, patients, vendors and the general public.
- Sustain an outgoing, caring personality and represent Samaritan’s Purse in a positive and supportive manner to the staff and general public at all times.
- Record and tracking of progress of consulted individuals.
- Develop summaries of cases (monthly) and write success stories.
- Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- BA degree in Theology, strong theological background/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Pastoral Training and or Social Work or Counsellor experience
COMMUNITCATION SKILLS
- Ability to listen empathetically and communicate in a caring, supportive manner with individuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, patients and staff and the general public.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to apply spiritual perspectives to common needs with humility, sensitivity, and discernment.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and/or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
